An important figure in British pop musichistory, though rarely heard on R2 nowadays; popularised latin music in the 1940s-1960s with huge chart hits, favourite of the Queen. From humble background he rose to the top of the dance band world, owned night clubs etc., and lived to a ripe old age! _________________ -

He'll be a miss but what a grand age to reach. Anyone else old enough to remember a Light Programme show called Mr Ros and Mr Ray, which was on in the 50s? Featuring Edmundo Ros and Ray Ellington, it used to be on at lunchtime on a Sunday if Billy Cotton was having a break.

There were a couple of programmes on Radio2 last year when he reached his 100th birthday, in fact Clare Teal devoted her entire Sunday night show to him as far as I remember. He had a very interesting career.
I imagine they might be given repeats in the near future. I hope so. |
