Was it just me, or did last night's show seem formulaic, lack-lustre and unpolished? The clips between the various 'acts' were a welcome relief from all the silliness, some of them being so moving that you couldn't resist reaching for your cheque book.

Apart from one particular one, that is. This was, I believe a clip from a film which the producers had made available. It showed a single parent family, three kids, I think. The kids were giving a heart-rending narrative on what it was like to be poor, for a boy to have to wear his sister's blouses to go to school, how their friends looked down on them, and there was dramatic opening of a fridge door to reveal only one item of food.

All very convincing, apart from the practically cinema sized TV screen in the lounge, another TV in the bedroom, the boy playing with an x box and a computer in the background.

Poverty certainly looks a lot different to what I knew as a kid. Shocked

I gave up watching Children in need many many years ago. Then when it was made known that Wogan had been paid for it in the early years no way would I gave...... Pehaps that was why you found it lack-luster....he is not paid for it any more.

I agree Hedgehog but fortunately I never feel the need to be stuck watching CIN because it always clashes with the coverage of the Grand Slam of Darts which lasts the whole evening and for me is far superior entertainment

Four superb matches last night which had viewers on the edge of their seats

And I'd wager that most of the players do a lot more to support charities on a regular basis than Mr Wogan's smug offering once a year

I've nothing against the CIN charity itself but the propensity of irritating celebrities demanding that the public part with their hard earned cash is simply hypocritical in the extreme - if these people are so concerned why don't they give a decent slice of their own millions away?

And in private without feeling the need constantly to blow their own trumpets and make such a song and dance about it Rolling Eyes

As i have mentioned before i give money to two charities and thats my business.I do not need to be told by some bloke from emmerdale who i give my money to.Did they do the newsreaders dancing again last night? Rolling Eyes
