has not been funny for years so i ignore him what he said was disgusting but the interesting thing is the right wing papers are banging on about bad taste never hurting(this was in the daily mail) right so what was the reason for going after Jonathan Ross?Again that was not funny and was in bad taste so what's the difference?

Without wanting to get political, neither were funny but Ross's comment was said to John Sachs over the phone, not a general remark about 1000's of people who were on strike.

The whole thing is a giant storm in a teacup

Mr Clarkson bores me to death (I used to like him until he got silly) but it is quite obvious that he was joking using extreme comedy to make a certain point and some people really do need to get a sense of humour

I do agree with the general point he was trying (rather badly) to make namely that public sector workers need to get real and take their fair share of cuts just like the rest of us who have to fund our own pensions with no help from taxpayers or anyone else

I reckon if 25% of civil servants were got rid of tomorrow nobody would even notice any difference

If you read any of his books or newspaper columns or watch Top Gear you will realise that Clarkson is what he is.

If you remove the petrolhead/bigot label you will find a well educated and extremely erudite journalist who is sick of the way this country is being run.

I happen to agree with a lot of his outbursts and it really is about time that a few people in this country got themselves a sense of humour and take his comments in the manner they were intended. I understand he has had to "apologise"....for what?

Why do people in the public eye have to apologise for every sexist/racist/ageist/whateverist comment they make? Whatever happened to freedom of speech?

Oh, and just as a sidenote....if you have a job and you choose to go on strike because you aren't happy with your pay/conditions/pensions etc then resign and find a job you're happy with as there will be thousands who'll be happy to take your place. I agree with Clarkson.

I think people are far too easily offended these days, it's obvious he didn't really mean what he said, it was just a joke for heavens sake.

I agreed with James Dellingpole on the JV show today.

I can see why some would be offended by his remark about strikers but, yes, it was a joke, and I find much of what he says very funny. I liked the comment he made on another occasion about trains being held up because of suicides ('why stop? it's not going to make them better'), though again some would be offended.

My only problem was that his comment was on the One Show, a family programme, so I can see why the BBC apologised.

Clarkson is Clarkson though, you don't invite him on a show and expect him to keep quiet Laughing

I agree we seem to have lost the ability of having a sense of humour!

The level of abuse Clarkson got on twitter was OTT.I dont agree with his politics and some of his books are good but i think both he and top gear have gone downhill.its like jimmy carr he makes some very sick jokes but we should have freedom of speech.

On a personal level i have plenty of experiance of suicide but i do not take offence at jokes because thats what they are.It sems to have been hidden but clarkson made a comment about trains not stopping for suicide

Obviously he was speaking with tongue in cheek and the over reaction has been absurd, but why doesn't he just shut up? Clarkson is about as funny as flea bites and what really gets my goat is WE are paying for him out of the licence fee Evil or Very Mad Hopefully he'll stay in China!

I don't like him, but he is very popular with lots of people. I have been in USA for a month and BBC wolrd devoted a whole day to his past TV shows....and it goes on for several days at a time.

Getting back to the point I feel people are getting far too sensitive and take themselves too seriously.......But it is part of a me me me society sadly. If you listened to the complete interview it was taken out of context

I think most of the British public might have been very happy if he'd said it about a banker Smile

Surely that is not evidence that millions over there love him. If they did the BBC would be selling his programmes to Fox!

BBC dont need to sell the programmes They have BBC America You would think the only programmes the UK people watch are Ramsey, Clarkson and Graham Norton. They are on most of the time. You would think that was all the BBC produced. Such a shame the impression to people outside the UK is yobisim (if thats a word) Laughing To have them on for a month, almost drove me to watch Fox.......but I resisted. I switched off

I have read the BBC POV messageboard and this board, and no-one seems to have recognised that Clarkson was having a dig at the BBC, NOT at the strikers. He pointed out that the BBC insists on balanced reporting, pulled a face, and then went into his tirade about shooting strikers. Anyone who did not realise he was having a go at the BBC needs to reboot their brain cells.
And as the BBC says themselves, other products are available. Wink

This is always the problem.....the true account of what happened only gets revealed after everyone has jumped on the bandwagon of complaint.

I'll admit to not watching The One Show but that's only because I can't guarantee that CE might appear at anytime but if I had seen the full context of JC's appearance on the aforesaid show then surely even someone with half of my limited intelligence could have worked out that those comments were not supposed to be inflammatory.

I really think that this new British pastime of complaining about something you have never witnessed but merely read about in the tabloids has got to stop.
