Ken just played Ella singing this in full...brilliant choice by Guy Garvey as part of his "Tracks of my Years", but I'd like to know why we are so rarely allowed to hear Ella and her like on Radio 2.

I think she was one of my late mother's favourites. She certainly had 'We'll Take Manhatten' in her record collection. It'll still be there somewhere.

Lord Evan,
Many years ago I remember a jukebox in a Chelsea pub that had Manhattan/Every time we say goodbye on it. It stayed on the jukebox for many years. The pub ain't there any more, but I bet the record would still be played if it were.............great stuff.Smile

Hello Childprufe,
'Every time we say goodbye' is the other one that was a favourite of mothers. She had that one too.

I've got the sigle of "Manhattan / Ev'ry time we say goodbye" - probably worth a fortune Laughing Still, at least I can hear it when I want, as Radio 2 are unlikely to play it anytime soon Mad

I love the " Ella Sings..." series too, her voice was just fabulous, and the songs by Gershwin, Porter, Mercer, Rodgers & Hart etc are timeless classics. I just wish there was a radio station that felt the same way!!

MiS

I'm going to make you jealous when I say I used to have Ella's autograph on a paper serviette when she visited my Dad's restaurant. I didn't meet her and it must have been in the 70s after a concert in Newcastle. It disappeared much to my horror about 15 years ago. Sad

Oh what a shame Helen Crying or Very sad That really was a rarity. I know Ella did concerts at Ronnie Scott's as I have her live album recorded there. I wonder what she made of the Geordie accent!

MiS

I couldn't believe that it had gone from the sleeve of my autograph book, just one of the mysteries of life! I think the concert must have been at the City Hall but it's so long ago now I can't remember.
