Hey Ron,

Don't start accusing us, we either like someone or we don't! I for one have never watched Danny Baker on TV (not to my knowledge anyway). Amy whatever she's called I have seen her on TV and don't like her so won't listen to her.

Maybe we don't like their style of broadcasting either. After all we don't have to like someone because others do.

Confused
And I thought I had worded the comment so carefully to ensure that, while kicking against the usual negativity, I wasn't taking sides, until we actually hear him and can judge how he adapts to and handles the Breakfast Show format. I did say that historically he's someone people either love or loathe.

........but you only come back when someone has a go about Evans or the breakfast show though Ron

Can you not just understand that I, and I suspect others, dislike the breakfast format but just occasionally can tolerate someone like Richard Madeley who isn't as 'hyper' as Evans? Danny Baker won't be any improvement so I won't bother. As I said previously the presenter is at least as important as format and content. As I dislike both I'm sure you won't be surprised that I don't listen, life's too short! Not to say that I don't miss having the radio on early on, but I'd rather sit in silence than endure what Radio 2 puts out at that time.

Ron, I think we may have discovered a cluster of “the never happy with anything gene”. I’m quite certain that if Radio 2 exhumed dead DJs and put them on air, people would say, “he’s not as lively as he used to be”, or perhaps, “I won’t be listening, I can’t stand dead people!” They can’t have celebrities, they can’t have DJs who’ve worked on any other Radio Station anytime ever, they can’t have anyone off the telly, they can’t have anyone without 30 years of Broadcasting experience on Radio 2 under their belt- perhaps they should just stop Broadcasting- there is no one who qualifies.

Well said! If I hated as much about a radio station as some of the regulars here I'd find something else to listen to but maybe that's too obvious a solution for some... Wink

People on here are increasingly listening to other stations which is really very sad

I still love some of the shows on R2 but regrettably it's a rapidly decreasing number and these days I'm selective about my listening and find that I'm spending more and more time listening to the likes of Smooth, Caroline,Classic FM and even some foreign stations

What are people like me supposed to do - just shut up and grin and bear it or have our say about things which displease us?

Whilst I respect the views of others with some on here there does not seem to be much reciprocation of this principal (Rachel excepted by the way)

The main problem I think is life. It’s all summed up by someone who can write far more eloquently than I…

“Every time when I look in the mirror, all these lines on my face getting clearer. The past is gone. It went by, like dusk to dawn, Isn't that the way. Everybody's got their dues in life to pay

I know nobody knows where it comes and where it goes, I know it's everybody sin, you got to lose to know how to win. Half my life, is books written pages. Live and learn from fools and from sages. You know it's true, all these things you do come back to you

Sing with me, sing for the years, sing for the laughter, sing for the tears, sing with me, just for today, maybe tomorrow, the good lord will take you away.”

Never under-estimate the power of right now.

Thank you Rach. That's much better than the riposte I wrote here last night and deleted this morning.

Or to quote the lyrics of one of my favourite 70's album tracks 'Circle of Hands' by 'Uriah Heep' from the excellent album 'Demons and Wizards'

'Today is only yesterday's tomorrow' Smile

Is that an original line or is it a quote from some poet or writer - does anyone know because I've often wondered Confused

According to a poetry quote site and wikipedia it was used/written by Lothar and the Hand People in the early 60s.

From Chris Evans being on holiday to Danny Baker covering, then to Aerosmith, Uriah Heep and now Lothar and the Hand People ... what a great thread.... Smile

Thanks Rach - can't say I've heard of the original authors but it's a great track from a superb album

Ken Hensley is a superb multi talented musician and songwriter and about 10 years ago when I was stuck in a hotel in London for 3 days I was lucky enough to spot a poster for a gig he was doing at the London Astoria (does that place still exist?) so to relieve the boredom I went along

Although he was by then very deaf from being in close proximity to far too many very loud PA systems he put on a great show of both 70's and newer material

Check out his 70's solo stuff especially the albums 'Proud Words on a Dusty Shelf' and 'Eager to Please' for some great musical and lyrical content Very Happy
