It seems that most Radio DJ's do announce the songs just played or about too. I know some Radio 2 presenters were criticised not doing this over the years, but do now. Does everyone find it neccessary for DJ too do this with the internet naming the songs be played, and showed up on DAB digital radio now?

TBH with R2's repetitive playlist as it is if you don't the songs by now you probably never will.

And yet, someone will still get them wrong on Popmaster!

Yes they should. IMO there is nothing worse than hearing an interesting sounding track, you wait to find out what it was only to be left 'high & dry' by the DJ because they jump to that annoying trailer that you're sick to death of hearing for what seems like the millionth time!. If you're in the business of playing music to the general public, then I think you should tell your audience what they've just heard, or what's the point of playing the track as they wouldn't know what to ask for, or even if you download, you surely still need to know title & artist to know what to look up. I've heard radio be called the shop window of the music industry (yes, I know about non-music stations like Radio 4!) but if you look in a real shop window, you would expect their wares to have a description and a price on them wouldn't you?

Steve Wright can be the main culprit for this, plays the music and goes straight into factoids or whatever. I suppose some are not really driven by music, just entertainment this is why there is a lack of main stream music broadcasters on radio 2 these days. Some just don't care, but there are a few standins who do.

Not everyone has a DAB radio Mark or they could be driving. My car radio certainly doesn't show title info and I don't listen on the internet very often.

I think people forget broadcasters are there to inform as well as entertain.

I'm quite lucky, my hubby knows everything- so if a presenter forgets to say what track it was, I just ask hubby, and he tells me, even if he's not heard it- he'll say, sing it, I sing a bit and he says oh that's .... whatever it was... he's always right but the presenters should say what track it is/was but it's no biggy if they forget now and again, they're not robots, they're just people like you and me ( well, not quite like me), mainly like you.

I'd have thought the presenters are too mainstream!

I remembered the last bit but not the song to start with...

I think my phone will identify a track or piece of music if I hold it to the radio... Rolling Eyes

Ken played the yellow dog song for Jeremy about half an hour later and then said "I've played it for Jeremy and I can guarantee I won't ever play it again"
That sort of attitude really annoys me as it was a lot better than 90% of the songs that preceded it.
Just how many times are you going to play Paradise by ColdPlay Ken?
Can't imagine him saying "I won't be playing that again"

Oh I missed that bit, and now I'm trying to think , how I missed that bit? I must have been making a cup of tea or something.
I don't think DJs mean it when they say that sort of thing, they're just expressing a personal opinion on a track and that is a good way of saying "I don't really like that".

I wonder if Ken said something to the effect of 'We're not still playing that' are we"? When he looked at his show's playlist before going on air. Sadly I missed the Yellow Dog thack because I had turned off Coldplay, then I had to go out! I remember when radio stations stopped playing tracks before they started grating on the listening public, then rest them for several years. I think it's time to re-introduce that.

I think that's a combination of our imagination and wishful thinking, LEE.

Mind you, the old pirates used to play stuff to death for three weeks, then as soon as it made the official Top Twenty (as opposed to their own Fab 40) they'd stop playing them.
