I was on the phone to my parents in Plymouth and gloating that we've managed to escape the snow. Then my wife pointed out that it's now snowing here, too.

An hour ago I cleared the path outside the back door, and already the snow has re-covered it to a depth of 1", and it's still coming down thick and fast.

Od dear, I really must move to somewhere nice and warm!

I havn't seen a snow plough and gritter is around the A roads where I live. Transport secretary has said " The government needs to look into investing into other sources if this type of weather continues". The government can't control the weather, but they may need to sort out better equipment to get people moving. Luckly enough this happened on a weekend, and the time of year schools are shut.

Brent Cross shopping centre in London shut up shop early because of the snow. Arrogant, me, me, me shoppers who very upset. If I was there I would have told what I thought of them. People just don't understand that shop workers need to get home, and it's for health and safety reasons. People who work in shops etc are not robots.

Dunno about that. The one that served me in the newsagents this morning was a robot.

I suppose we have to remember this is the same government who cut the road maintainence budget by £160 Million. Wonder where they would get road clearance equipment from if they keep wanting to bail out people.

Just had about six inches fall in around 90 minutes. Power went off over most of Northumberland north of Morpeth for 3 hours. Abandoned cars now on all of the roads heading north from Morpeth/Ashington (A1, A697 and A1068) - the A1 has been blocked several times this afternoon and police have told motorists not to bother driving in northern Northumberland, it's so dangerous.

It's still snowing outside, and the wind is now blowing it into drifts. Good job I've still got some annual leave left.... might not get into work tomorrow at this rate.

The government are waiting for a report from a chief scientist to see if they need to start to invest in more snow clearance equipment. Phillip Hammond Transport Secretary quoted saying, " they don't want waste money which could be spent on other priorities. I bet he's had his drive way gritted.

At least they'll have someone to blame after making the UK a laughing stock yet again next year..... and the year after......and.........

One question to which I have yet to hear an answer from those in power is what is the cost to businesses (large and small) of NOT taking pre-emptive action of the sort that our European partners seem to take so easily?

No. I thought it was a little bizzare. This is the Tories we are talking about. I guess the conclusion will be spend or this will happen again and again. Maybe the media could be left to get rid of Phillip Hammond, similar to what happened to the Scottish Transport minister.

I don't read links to The Daily Rag, but on the point of "getting rid of ministers" I don't see the point. You get rid of one and another comes along. It's not the individual that's at fault it's the whole system that's wrong.

The 15mph brigade were out in force again today - and the roads weren't as bad as last time around.

Maybe this lady was one of them - this video is priceless. What did she think was going to happen when the car was left in gear and she started pushing? Rolling Eyes

In Milton Keynes, only the main grid roads have been gritted and everyone is driving at 20 mph max. I have to say that at least we're all moving efficiently. I saw only one instance of someone driving like a complete knob who took a roundabout too quickly and slewed off onto the verge.

She is, without a doubt, an idiot. However, the fact that those morons were recording it on video rather than helping her doesn't say much for their neighbourliness does it?

Unfortunately, we've got a few hills around here - the slow people find that they come to a rather abrupt halt on them as they lose traction very quickly, and the HGVs following them end up jack-knifing behind with hilarious results, not. The same losers end up wondering why they're spinning their wheels in first, trying desperately to negotiate roundabouts, moving away from junctions and lights, when putting it into second and gently applying the throttle is much easier than trying to put their foot through the accelerator pedal and wondering why they're standing still, just polishing the snow with their tyres. Momentum and gentle but steady throttle is the key to slight hills - whilst you don't have to fly around like a rally driver with studded tyres, it is possible to do around 40 mph on the country main roads providing you leave enough of a gap between you and the guy in front and you don't have so much of a problem - at least on the well-engineering roads we have up here. Obviously not the sort of thing you can do on a twisty road or steep hills, but then I know my limitations and don't use those roads until they've been treated properly.

If she's that clueless, I wouldn't want to be within ten yards of her when she's manoeuvring.... I've seen idiots who can't drive in snow nearly knock down those kind enough to help push. If they had gone and helped, judging by the way she had turned the front wheels, they'd have just pushed her harder into their front wall!

I know what you mean. I used to live in South Devon and it annopyed the hell out of me the way that people would slow down just when you needed to get a bit of a run at an incline.

Just think - there's a distinct possibility that somebody at her insurance company has now seen what she did, too!

Oh yes! Laughing Trouble is, we'll end up paying higher premiums next year to pay for the likes of her.

Speaking of kn*bs, have a look at this one.... turn the sound down/off if you're not fond of questionable music, though. He was incredibly lucky not to collect people in Lane 2 or 3.... then keeping on going, in the same lane that caused the problem in the first place! Rolling Eyes

Also coined a new (for me) colourful metaphor..... Confused

We are almost at the end of week four of the snow. This morning it was -15c (again) and most of our windows were iced up inside. One window (facing north) stayed that way all day. The highest the temperature got was -7c. We have now got a problem with condensation inside two 'built in' wardrobes and have had to take all the clothes out and hang above the stairs. It brings a whole new meaning to Christmas decorations! Shocked

For the 3rd day in a row the office block where I work has no water. I'm lucky in that I can work from home but we have a skeleton staff who have to go next door every time they want to use the loo.

I wish that the snow would thaw here, but there is more forecast for tonight. In another couple of says it will be the start of week five, I'm sick of it now. We had no heating at work today and no water either. Sad

Started to thaw quickly here today due to the rain this morning and 2C temps at lunchtime (shock, horror!). Unfortunately it'll all freeze over tonight due to the 0C forecast, should make life interesting for those having to go back to work tomorrow morning (not me, I'm off until next Wed!).

My nan and mother who are retired both received there yearly winter fuel allowance. They also received 25 quid each for the past 3 weeks, as the local temperature are recorded as, or forecast to be, zero degrees Celsius or below over seven consecutive days.

Slow thaw going on here now. Temperature 4c today, just going to dig out my swimming cozzie! I wouldn't mind the snow so much if it was just us to think about, but my elderly mum relies on us for shopping etc and refuses to leave her own home which is three miles away. A long walk in snow, okay otherwise.

Although it has been mild in England since the New Year, I believe that most of Scotland has suffered recurrent snowfalls and frost/icy conditions.

At the moment the 5-day forecast for this part of the country suggests that it will be milder still come next Monday, when the half term starts.

Ian we were up in Newcastle yesterday and couldn't believe there was no snow! We left Cheshire at 8 having had to clear 6+ inches off the car and slither down the street to the main road!

We still have thick snow everywhere here in East Norfolk... I even had an outbuilding roof collapse under the weight of it!
The Model Boat pond at the bottom of the cliffs is frozen over too..
I'm pleased to note my new extension roof still has a full covering of snow all over, despite several radiators pumping out heat in the rooms below... goes to show my super thick insulation is doing it's job! Razz
