The Saturday Shuffle on the early morning Saturday Show is a real waste of time- three new songs are introduced, each of which is to be a choice in a listener text vote. A, B or C: this morning it was a new track, one each by Will Young, Madonna and Katie Melua. There’s nothing wrong with new music on the radio, the radio is, after all, the showcase for new music, and there’s nothing wrong with listener choice. No. But here’s the thing…. They spend so long explaining how the text vote works and how you mustn’t put a gap between the word “vote” and your choice of A, B or C, as well as playing a short clip of each track, (they do this whole sequence at least twice) that they could have just played all three tracks by not bothering with all the fannying-around with the voting instructions! What’s wrong with just saying… here’s new track by Will Young, then playing it, and later in the show saying , here’s a new track by Madonna and playing it, and later still saying, here’s a new track by Katie Melua and playing it?

Didn't hear it but totally agree, things get a bit technical with all this texting.......

For some reason I thought maybe you were suggesting we did our own 'Saturday Shuffle' with a mix of tracks as I'm listening to some mini discs that I compiled many years ago. A real mixture!

Yes - just play the tracks and forget the listener participation and texting

With the exception of most people on here and perhaps some other music fora the average R2 listener wouldn't know a good new track if it jumped out of their radio and punched them in the face Rolling Eyes

Just look at 'All Request Friday' for example - do listeners ever pick anything new, different or interesting - no, they pick the same old things that have been played for years though I admit that might be down to the producers as they select which requests get as far as being put on air
