For me it's not the music that's the problem - it's the other bits in between Sad

How many more times do those who don't listen to Evans have to repeat that it's HIM we dislike not whatever he plays or doesn't play during his show.

Helen, I merely put forward the thought that this morning’s collection of music on the Breakfast Show was… rather good. I thought perhaps some other people may have thought the same. My post was not an invitation, request or order for anyone to say, again, how much they dislike the host of the Breakfast Show, but knowing as I do just how much a few people do dislike Chris Evans' show is not reason enough on its own to exclude talking about his show and the music on it, here with others whom do like his show.

It's a rather obvious snipe though Rachel..............

H

PS I don't want to get into another argument about Evans as this caused problems last year.

The original observation this morning was about the music. Only the music.
Someone else dragged the presenter in to it.

It's not a snipe at all, Helen, if anything.....

Snipe "to attack a person or a person's work with petulant or snide criticism, especially anonymously or from a safe distance".

How my earlier post about music could be regarded as a snipe is not understood, Perhaps you mean that this Forum is only for people who don't like Chris Evans and anyone who does like his show or worse still, says that they like his show, isn't welcome here? What other conclusion can I draw? There are shows that I don't like but I don't feel compelled to say so every time someone else talks about them.

If that was me, I do apologise. Merely saying that the whole show is fun. I can't really separate the music and presenter because it actually bounces around pretty well, with Evans expertly weaving the music, guests, lists and news together.

And I don't care who I tell about it! Razz

I bet Evans got loads of new listeners today now Moyles has finished on Radio 1... and will get even more when useless Nick Grimshaw starts.

I agree with you, Helen. As soon as I hear the idiot's voice I reach for any button that gets rid of him. I'm quite sure that he has a musical taste that's consistent with my own - it's just his childish style of presentation that grates.

He way well pick up a few Radio One breakfast show deserters, but those 20- and 30-somethings I know who have listened to Moyles will be more inclined to give Grimmy a chance rather than switch to Radio 2. I mentioned this to my 28-year-old son and he said there's no way he or any of his mates would listen to that ******* **** Evans!

I think Nick Grimshaw might well increase the Radio One breakfast audience taking away listeners from Radio Two

He's a great deal better than both Moyles and Evans and as a bonus he actually plays music rather than boring everybody senseless with pointless self indulgent chat Smile

I know you keep quoting that line from your son over and over Colin, but you and him don't speak for everyone I'm afraid.

And when did I ever claim to "speak for everyone"? I'm only stating a fact, and the fact is that in our family we have two generations who think that Evans is a complete prat. And we both also feel that the Radio 2 Breakfast Farce is unlikely to draw significant numbers of new listeners over from Radio One.

To which I can tell you of two friends (Sarah and Helen) who moved from Moyles to Evans yesterday and enjoyed it. So you're sussed! Razz

Chris has bought a bridge!! How cool is that?! It will be dead-handy for carfest south, although a 70m bridge that looks like half a tyre is not easily portable. If it was a whole tyre, it would be easy, they could just roll it with a big stick but sadly it's just a bit less than half a tyre: a design flaw perhaps. We've paced it out- it would stretch from our front lawn, across the road, over the top of the house opposite and then about half way down their garden- it would make a useful shortcut to their summerhouse for us.

Bargain! 70m bridge for sale. Buyer collects. Good luck with that sweetheart. Life can at times make one smile. I love Chris Evans ( not in that way) he's like having a really whacky friend although I doubt very much that the feeling is mutual but that's ok.

Laughing
They've done half the work for him - it has already been taken down and cut into bite-sized chunks.

I suspect that he will end up spending rather more than the £300 he's paid for it in getting it home, and in getting planning consent to do anything with it.

I'm pretty sure, Colin, that if I had the time and energy to look back through your posts, I would find one that says words to the effect of, "it's not about listening figures" anyway..... 9,000,000 and now 9,000,002 isn't that bad actually. Smile

Oh BTW , I have an idea for a new programme to follow Top Gear- yes, thank you for reminding me- Chris said he'd go 50/50 on the profit! Tell you?! Here?! Now?! In public?! Oh no, I've learned my lesson with passing on my great ideas in public ... Barcodes! My idea. Scan and Go... my idea... early 80s....Moving floors in supermarkets- so you don't have to walk around, no one gets in your way, you just hop on at the door, everyone goes around every part of the store in order and you pick-up things as you go... Brilliant! You'll see... conveyer supermarkets... the next big thing- no queues, no barging, no pushing , no waiting..... no going back if you forget something... a list .. a list!!!! Does no one write lists anymore?! I have a list of lists! No going the wrong way! A trolley that adds up your bill as you go around - swipe your card or use your thumb-print on the way out, bingo, shopping done! Oh that's not my idea for a new programme BTW, that was just a shopping idea. Anyone interested can have that one for free. Smile

Erm, I hate to tell you this, Rach, but the first barcode was printed and scanned in 1974 (and what's just shocked me is that I didn't need to look that up), the moving supermarket principle is enshrined in Ikea, Waitrose has got the trollies that scan and swipe (or used to), and in any case they are all made redundant by shopping online.

Taxpayer-funded organisation produces something which (together with Radios 1 and 4) the majority of taxpayers seem to enjoy, at least at breakfast time.

Shock, Horror! It must be bad, and hobbled forthwith!

I heard precisely one second of his voice. Switching to Radio 4 in haste, there was a good discussion - presided over by Andrew Marr - on the subject of "handwriting" and its apparently subdued importance in this so-called digital age. And most enlightening it was too. Cool beans, some would say.

My handwriting has always been awful. Word processing is such a boon to those of us with inky-booted spiders as our written hand. These days though, the only time one needs to write anything at all with a pen, is for the Times Crossword each day, and Christmas and Birthday Cards, and pressie tags of course. Those too can be pre-printed if you really want to suck the last breath of life from the humble but honourable pen. I’ll try to catch that on the I-player, Colin. Thanks.

Speaking of Christmas…. It’s coming…. is anyone excited yet?
There was a distinct feeling of Christmas in our house over the weekend- cold - dark early... just the two of us snuggled in front of our log-burner - Strictly... Merlin.... Chinese takeaway... and beer... well hubby had beer.. I had tea.

A new kick-off theme tune from tomorrow..... Joe 90.... how cool is that?! I was rather hoping for Crossroads because they never did anything outside- ( apart from that one scene where what's him name got tipped out of his wheelchair by an angry customer) so it was always lovely and warm but Joe 90 is an acceptable alternative. Smile

The theme was the best part of Joe 90

Unfortunately nothing could redeem Crossroads, and especially not Tony Hatch's turgid theme, as Paul McCartney later proved.

well... Joe 90 it was this morning but I'm not sure about it, there wasn't much zing to it. It was all a bit flat. Don't get me wrong, it was ok in a, it'll do for now kind of way, maybe we'll get used to it, but I think a rethink is deffo required. Stuff to do and all that. I'll get back to you later.....

I heard Chris was interested hosting the F1 commentary on BBC when Jake Humphrey leaves. I can't see the BBC given him every Friday off.

Worked it for all it was worth, but I think he was a little underwhelmed by the new Rolling Stones single.

How many of us have had ZZ Top in our head all morning instead?
