Engelbert Humperdinck is going to represent the UK entry of the Eurovision.

I thought it was a joke when I saw this. Maybe we will win.

Last I heard EH was running a pub in Leicestershire and is quite a mean darts player

Perhaps he'd have more success entering the World Darts Championship rather than the Eurovision Song Contest

Having said that for many of us it will hopefully be a pleasant throwback to an era when Britain used to win the competition but realistically what are our chances now even if we had some worldwide star like Lady Gaga singing for us?

Not very great I would venture to suggest and I certainly wouldn't put any money on the outcome Smile

It's a bit bizarre, isn't it?

I loved Gambo on the radio this morning saying Humperdinck would appeal to younger viewers because of his song in the Beavis & Butthead movie. That was 16 years ago! They'll have kids of their own by now.

Whatever he sings it will be melodious, catchy and have some retro-glamour. I might even watch it this year as it could well win! Laughing

Are you sure? The writer is the woman who wrote "You're Beautiful" with James Blunt.

"Engelbert's age isn't the reason why we chose him to represent the nation for Eurovision, but it's nice to break a few records along the way," a BBC spokeswoman said.

He'll be on Countryfile next Laughing

Yes, if it's anything like the appalling James Blunt song, the UK will no doubt end up last again with nul points.
I shall watch it though as I've always liked EH. 'The Last Waltz' is a fabulous song. Ken played 'Les Bicyclettes de Belsize' today. 'A Man Without Love' was a good catchy song.
The less said about 'Release Me' though...dreadful.
