From what I've heard I'd say it's average Springsteen.
There are elements from most of his career - stadium rockers, introspective ballads, folky/Seegeresque romps - and, as ever, it's difficult to hear what he's singing because diction and enunciation have never been his strong points.

It's Amazon's album of the week, which means you should be able to download it for £4.99, until Sunday. Only you can't, cos their system seems to be up the spout at the moment.

I love Bruce so this is up my street. Agree it's a typical springsteen album but think that's a good thing

I've been pretty underwhelmed from what I've heard of the album so far

I think the stuff Bruce is churning out now is a pale shadow of his great 80's classics and I'm talking album tracks as well as singles from that era

One wonders whether he has been put under pressure to produce the latest offering for commercial reasons rather than him feeling that it's a good project artistically Smile

I can't imagine that he's squandered or given away the billions he must have earned, so I don't think there's any commercial motivation behind this latest project.

He was never a bundle of fun, but this one seems to be rather doom-laden, wallowing in America's "depression" and the man-in-the-street's financial woes.

I used some Tesco loyalty vouchers and bought the CD - it comes in a horrible, penny-pinching card sleeve, even the "Deluxe" version does, rather than a proper jewel case.

Despite however much any artist has earned in the past record companies can still put pressure on artists to churn out more stuff which is not always of the highest quality

Springsteen clearly doesn't need the money but perhaps his greedy record company wants to cash in whilst he's still in the market for touring and performing Smile

I don't know. I think Bruce is one of the select few artists (along with Bob Dylan, Barbra Streisand, Tony Bennett) whom Sony/CBS will go to great lengths to keep sweet. The value of [rights to] the back catalogue is worth more than new, and the danger of him walking off to a competitor (as the Stones, Queen, Macca and David Bowie have done with EMI) at contract renewal time is enough to ensure they don't give him cause to raise his middle finger.

The last couple of his albums were packaged in the same way, it is very disappointing.

This is the first chance that I have had to play the CD and I am enjoying it very much. Shame about the packaging and I had great difficulty getting the disc out of the sleeve, it kept going into the other half. Rolling Eyes
