Dermot O'Leary usually has Alan and Mel in and every time I tune in I feel my ears are bleeding with the loud laughter.. He's reminds of a group of people in the pub and you always hear someone who's the centre of attention. I know he's there to entertain and it's a one off thankfully for some listeners. I wish he could tone it down slightly and during his own show.

This is the trouble with those shows where the main presenter has a sidekick or 'posse'. At their worst you can be left feeling that you are eavesdropping on a private conversation. Often any jokes just pass me by, they might mean something to those present in the studio, but usually leave me cold. And you are right, they are too berluddy loud!!

I wouldn't like to bet on it, as it sounds like they are doing something different from that article Mark (thanks btw).

When this show first started I did express surprise that a touring stand-up comedian would have a regular Saturday night radio show, and sure enough it's restricted him a little.

But it does seem the slot was a success and though I'd prefer Gambo at 6 and In Concert at 8 I suspect we'll get something similar instead.

Interestingly, Mel Sykes has tweeted this:

"It's always boils down to money and budget cuts. Devastated. I have never had that much fun at work in my life and i think it showed : ) xx"

So...not quite the spin the BBC are putting on it. Sounds like the latest name that Radio 2 couldn't afford to keep.

Although the show was funny, brilliant and entertaining in parts, I liked it, such a hoot: in the main, it was a train crash. The only time it was a good show all the way through was when Penny Smith sat-in for Mel: Penny really tamed the monster.

Emma Forbes. She was supposed to be doing the the early weekend breakfast show as well but it all got too much for her.

He's OK at standup just on the Radio it was bad, especially with his sidekick.

Let's hope we get something worth listen to .

Tony Blackburn did tweet saying he was doing a project with his producer Phil Swern. It be nice if he hosted a Saturday night dance/soul music show, which would mean POTPs would need to be moved.

It's most likely that they realised the show is utter crap and totally unsuitable for R2 output at any time of the day.

I honestly don't care what takes it's place as anything will be better than having to listen to those two cackling when I drive down to the shops on Saturday evening to buy a Lottery ticket. I'm only sorry it's taken so long for BS to finally see the light.

Next? Chris Evans?

Why not indeed. Or maybe a show of album tracks. I still miss The Critical List show that Stuart Maconie did.

Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

As I mentioned before I'd like to see a decent specialised rock show on R2 and I think this slot would be perfect for such a show - or alternatively they could move Gambo back to his old time and do the rock show afterwards Smile

According to Steve Wright, Liza Tarbuck is taking over the Alan Carr slot. It doesn't really make much difference to me - I've got far beyond the point of listening to Radio 2 at this time on a Saturday.

No, Radio 2 would prefer to keep the show but it really is because they can't afford it.

I don't mind Lisa Tarbuck at all, so might be worth a listen while in the bath or something. I haven't listened to Saturday evening R2 since Maconie was on with the Critical List. Dave Cash has a nice two hour chart (oldies) show on BBC local radio, if anyone's interested , at 6 on a Saturday evening.. The first hour is 60's or 70's.

When you think of what Saturday on R2 used to be like...Johnnie's afternoon show springs to mind, along with Maconie's show, plus an earlier Bob Harris, well, it's nothing short of cultural vandalism, what's been done to it, by the last two controllers.
