The former Welsh Rugby Union Number 8 has died at the age of 65.
I used to watch him at the London Welsh home matches in the early 1970s alongside other greats such as John Dawes, John Taylor and JPR Williams.
Unfortunately I never took my camera to those matches, which I have always regretted. |

I'm not a great Rugby Union fan (Rugby League is my favourite sport) but I do remember Mervyn from the 60's and having spent most of my working life in Wales I know how much he would have meant to many who followed his career
I gather he suffered a brain injury whilst still playing many years ago but all the same it's far too young an age for anyone to pass away
It frequently amazes me how so many formerly very fit sports men and women seem to die at an age well below the national average and it's very sad _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

Some heartfelt tributes paid to Merv before the Wales/France game today ...there was no mistaking him on the field of play with his broad white headband and moustache
Sad he didn't live to see Wales succeed in their bid for the Grand Slam this time round.

And a fabulous game to watch as well, utterly compelling. Well done Wales on another grand slam. |
