Quote:
Sunday April 1st will see a brand new weekend schedule on the Magic Network North as Mike Read & Tony Blackburn join Dave Lee Travis. The three UK radio living legends will come together to create a fantastic weekend line-up which truly cements Magic’s credentials as playing the best of the 60s, 70s and more.

Icons and household names to this day, the trio have 55 years combined experience at BBC Radio One, and have won over 60 national radio and TV awards between them.
Mike Read will take the reins of weekend breakfast 7-10am, followed by DLT on mid-mornings 10am-1pm. The Tony Blackburn Show can be heard on Sunday afternoons from 4-7pm, creating real ‘appointment to listen’ radio for Magic’s 833,000 listeners.**

Cath Ellington, Managing Director, Magic Network North, commented; “These are three of radio’s biggest and most respected broadcasters. Their personalities and passion for great music from the 60s and 70s means they are the perfect match for Magic. Most of our listeners will have an immediate connection with Mike Read and Tony Blackburn having grown up listening to them. DLT has already built a loyal audience during the last few years so working together is great news for our advertisers and listeners.”

I fondly remember the old days when local radio was local, and not just a pension plan for ex-Radio 1 DJs broadcasting from their houses in the Home Counties.

Magic isn't strictly a local station though unlike for example BBC Local Radio so I don't really think it matters from where the various presenters broadcast

I certainly will give it a try because apart from Lynn Parsons on Smooth there is a severe lack of anything of any quality on Sunday radio and all three presenters have superb pedigrees unlike many of the ones currently foisted on us at weekends on Radio Two Sad

I think it's available on DAB and on line and on Medium Wave Radio

There seems to be a Sky Listing on Channel 0180 for Magic 105.4 but I presume that is an FM Channel seperate from what Mark was talking about Smile

I don't have Sky.... yet, just Virgin but if it's on DAB then great!
I know Magic is on there somewhere but that "North" bit threw me.

Well, "our" Magic here in Lancashire used to be Red Rose Radio, then was the AM version of that station, with many of the same presenters from the same studios in Preston... and now it's just another station run by a corporation from a central hub.

The show that DLT was doing on Magic 1161 was spoilt by phone ins. Not my cup of tea at all, but other programmes on the station are very much to my liking as in my post a year or so ago!

Unfortunately whilst the London Magic is "more music less talk" I find Magic 828 to be more adverts less music. In a morning (when I am trying to avoid you know who) you are lucky to get 3 records in half an hour.

Tony will still be heard doing POTP's on Radio 2 on a Saturday. His Sunday shows on BBC London will be Live from 12-2pm as well as Magic from 4pm. His KMFM shows with P&O will be pre-recorded on a Sunday from 4pm.
