I was sad to read about the death of Jocky Wilson today - a great darts legend and a thoroughly nice man who was also well known to music fans

Who can ever forget the famous episode of Top of The Pops when Dexy's Midnight Runners were performing one of their biggest hits when suddenly in mid performance a large image of Jocky appeared in the background instead of the intended picture which of course should have been of Jacky Wilson Laughing

Even to this day I think everyone is unclear as to whether it was a genuine mistake or whether it was a practical joke on the part of the production crew but either way it was one of the most memorable occasions in the history of the show

Jocky was a great world champion in the 1980's who not only performed at the very highest level for many years but who also appeared on shows like Bullseye and did a great deal of work for various charities

In his later years Jocky turned his back on his former fame and became very reclusive and shunned the media completely which to me in many ways was rather sad since he could still have had a big role in darts either as a manager or perhaps even a commentator assuming people could understand his broad Scottish accent

I know Jocky had a place in the hearts of many ordinary people and not just the darts fraternity and he truly was one of the greatest legends of the sport who will be very sadly missed
