Probably more importantly there have been some recent Government inspired changes to cover the massive deficiency in the Royal Mail pension fund which many see as the prelude to likely privatisation which I think would be a huge mistake exactly as it was with the railways
I guess the substantial hike in stamp prices is another step on the same road _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

Ah well, more delivery of local cards by hand next Christmas. I usually post them because of lack of time. |

I'm going to buy my Christmas stamps this month to beat the price increase
Of course you must buy the stamps which simply state first or second on their face and not those with the prices on - best to buy them at a shop or supermarket _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

I bought 4 books of 12 2nd class stamps last week and I've 3 books left over from last March, so should keep me going. Must get some 1st class tomorrow, I don't use them very often though.

I always thought stamps were a uniform price everywhere until a few years ago when I thought I had been charged wrongly for some in a local newsagents.....think I'll get a stock in too in the next few weeks. |

I bought some books of stamps today. I can't believe how much they are going up by, I think I will buy some each week until they do. Perhaps this year I will finally cut my Christmas card list down, I have been trying to do it for years! _________________ Pirate Johnnie Walker played my request on 11 April 2009 |

A word of advice - both Tesco and Asda are currently offering promotions where if you spend £40 in store you get a voucher for £5 off your following week's shopping
So even if you don't need to buy £40 worth of shopping why not make up the difference with books of stamps
That way you get both stamps at the current price and discount off your future shopping and you can even buy more stamps with that discount if you wish
I think I should be doing Martin Lewis's job _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

The General Post Office was out of 2nd class stamps when I went in for some this morning. The P.O now situated in W.H. Smiths ..the lovely old building where it used to be just being used for return parcels only now... so the person behind the counter shouted across to one of the women who works in Smiths to ask if they had any ....the reply was yes ....so no stamps at the P.O. but available at W.H Smiths..... ... |

Yes the same in Great Yarmouth.. I think I'm right in saying the Post Office, or rather, tiny bit of floorspace, is now located in Smiths.. whilst the imposing, purpose built, red stone & brick, former Post Office; is now flats!
How much lower will we sink I wonder? _________________ Johnnie Walker read out my message on Pirate Radio! 13/8/07

There was a protest at the time,Santa, against ours being moved to Smiths but the answer to that was .... "The decision was a commercial one, there can be no ‘public debate’ and there is no need for public ‘consent’" |

I know of a rural pub down in Herefordshire which has the local post office incorporated within the building
Apparently the arrangement is mutually beneficial and when the Post Office moved there the local brewery came up with a suitable real ale to celebrate the occasion - Postmans Knock I believe it was called _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

Stamps are going up...
The price of a first-class stamp is to increase by 2p to 62p while a second-class stamp will go up 3p to 53p, Royal Mail has announced.
Royal Mail said that under the current regulatory framework, it could have increased second-class stamps by 7p, instead of the 3p it chose to.

I've still got a few books,of each, I bought before they went up last time. |

That would be very handy for me. When my wife asks: "Where are you going?" I could reply "I'm just off to the Post Office". |

I guess it is still a saving to buy some at the price they are now.

Postage stamps are set to rise from the 30th of March to 63p for first class and 54p for second...a 1p rise on both.
I still have enough for, probably,a year or two yet from when I bulk bought back in 2012.

I'm just coming to the end of mine Becky! Wish I'd bought more now. Will buy several books of 1st and 2nd class before they go up. Must admit I don't use that many apart from at Christmas.

Thank you Becky, this news had passed me by. I use a lot of stamps throughout the year and especially at Christmas, so I will start building up my stocks. _________________ Pirate Johnnie Walker played my request on 11 April 2009 |

Me neither Helen - I really only use stamps for sending Christmas cards and I find for various reasons I'm sending less of those these days _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

H | I did buy rather a lot,Helen. I was just so annoyed,at the time, at how much they were going up!
