Anyone listen? Thoughts?

To me she was quite a lot like Sarah Kennedy was at her best. A good show – very laid back. I didn’t think much of the Knight in Shining Pyjamas feature:- nominate someone else – why not: but to nominate yourself as a hero(in) of night-workers is well: not the done thing, surely.

The show started off with the old Treasure Hunt theme. She did seem a little laid back. Give her time to blend in,

It only sounded "laid-back" in comparison to the hi-energised, gabbling delivery of Zoe Ball.
Actually I thought she sounded a bit on edge, which is understandable, and there seemed to be an over-reliance and over-emphasis, on the texts and emails. The Hero In Shining Pyjamas (THISP) sounds as though it was dreamt up by a student in Media Studies, and is pretty feeble. She just wants the weekend equivalent of the Feelgood Friday, like THIS - Thank Heavens It's Saturday, although I suppose there is the risk that with that she'd alienate the only other people (apart from Rachel) who are likely to be awake and up at that hour, lorry drivers and shop workers.

She's got a nice, non-shouty voice, and I'm hopeful that in time things will sound more natural and relaxed. Anyone with a memory span of more than 20 years does, however, have to expunge from their mind the image of her in a bright turquoise jump suit.

I listened to the last 30 minutes of her first show and thought she sounded nervous. I didn't think she had the warmth of Lynn Parsons, but with time she might once she settles in. It was a lot, lot better than Zoe Ball who talks at a mile a minute. Very soon I will be getting up early for work on Saturdays and I won't object to Anneka, by the way I don't drive a lorry or work in a shop! Laughing

Like Angela I only heard the last 30 minutes and it was okay, such a relief not to have Zoe gabbling on. I thought she sounded rather quiet as I had to turn up the radio when she spoke.

I think she needs to learn to pronounce peoples names. Keep asking to get listeners to text and phone when the show is nearly over seems a little out of touch. She comes across OK, but I wouldn't have had her in that slot. I think she would have been more suited to a show like Kim Wilde does on Magic, or just some links and nothing else. Then Anneka admits she's handed the emails and texts and reads straight out. Why doesn't she read them before opening the mic. Can't blame the producers. Unless they are running the show, and she's been pulled by strings.

OK the shows not that great, and I'm fed up of hearing about who her friends are and the parties BUT it's keeping worse presenters out of the slot Very Happy

A lot of presenters take a while to find their rhythm and relax into a show. Ms Rice isn't setting the world alight at the moment, but she's not frightening the natives, either. Hopefully the programme will strengthen with time.

If you missed this week's show, check it out on the iplayer- there's a section about doughnuts and granddads that chimed perfectly with our everyday lives. Brilliant stuff.

I caught the last few minutes of Saturday's show whilst waiting for SOTS and happened to note that she does not appear to know the difference between the track 'Let's Go to San Fransisco' by the Flowerpot Men which was what was actually played and 'If you're Going to San Fransisco' by Scott Mackenzie which is what she announced was playing

A pretty basic kind of error for someone purporting to be a presenter on a popular music station Rolling Eyes

I expect she was reading-out exactly what she was given to read out:- it's no biggy. It happens on other shows with far more experienced presenters.
Anyway cheer-up you old grump Smile, it's April- the sun is shining, the birds are tweeting- tra la la... be happy ( and don't say , you'll be happy when we get some decent presenters on R2 cos if you do, you'll be condemning yourself to a life of abject misery- forever, and that's a bloomin' long time) Smile

The sun isn't shining here Rach - very damp but at least it shows signs of getting better Smile

I'm actually feeling in a very good mood today but I wasn't on Saturday morning which might go some way to explaining why what some may see as an unimportant mistake rather got my hackles up

I've given up waiting for new decent presenters on Radio 2 especially as long as Mr Shennan is in charge - it's a case of making the most of those who do still exist before they become an extinct species Laughing

It will be shining behind the cloud, Rudds Smile It's really quite nice here in West Dorset. Lovely and warm in the garden.

I think uncle Bob's days are numbered: Chris Evans is reported to be taking over the DG slot at the BBC and later getting rid of all management, to be replaced with his own team, as well as him keeping up his Breakfast Show and One Show commitments:- that's what I read anyway.

Ruddles: as a chart nerd myself I too get a bit annoyed when so called professionals get it wrong, though in mitigation Anneka was probably not even born when Let's Go To SF and If You're Going To SF were hits in the late summer of 1967.They are easily confusable, with the same hippie theme etc.

Someone had clearly not done their research, but that happens in lots of other shows as well, especially SOTS.

I do take that point Schiz and the error was probably on her running order but I still think a decent music presenter should be able to spot such an error from their own musical knowledge and quite frankly someone who isn't familiar with music from as recently as the late 60's should not be presenting on this country's number one listened to radio station Sad

Continuing my pet hate of music presenters knowing nothing about the music or artists........

....Anneka had a couple of goes at Fontella 'Base' this morning, before deciding it was probably Fontella Bass after all.

Note to self - deep breath and carry on.

That's quite funny, Tricky: hubby and I were in bed, listening, this morning and I said , Oh, Fontella Bass... Rescue Me ( again).....and we had a, it could be 'Base' like the way it's said in music but no it's definately Bass, hubby concluded, like in Bass Charrington, then we did giggle when Anneka, had the same conversation with herself. Well, I did.

It's a bit like that pillock Richard Madeley back-announcing a Fran Healey (Travis) song and saying "She's really good". Really........ Rolling Eyes

I only ever hear the last few minutes and to me she still sounds very amateurish even after a few months.

Funnily enough Trevor Nelson also referred to Fontella 'Base' on Wednesday night. But at least he knows his music, unlike Anneka.

I hope Radio 2 don't give anymore duties for Anneka to cover. The show I heard on listen again seems very bland.

I've listened to Anneka for the last 4 weeks and I've really enjoyed her show.
Her producer, Carmella often picks a better choice of music than you hear on daytime during the week.

Carmella was one of JV's original team when he first started.

I didn't realise she was on Jeremy's show Helen.
I used to enjoy the music on Zoe's show , I think Carmella was the producer for her too

I think she has done some of Johnnie Walker's shows, maybe when he's done Wogan, and a few others as well.

I remembered her because of her unusual name and also her surname with escapes me right now!

That's Natasha Costa something that you're probably thinking of LEE. That show isn't a BBC production either.

Aahh, so it is Aitch. But Carmella's name does rng a bell somewhere else, not Jezza's show and not Zoe Ball's either. What other shows has she produced?

It does with me too, but can't think what it was. I think she did some documentaries, maybe it was one of them?

Listened to all of Anneka's show as I drove down to London on Saturday. Can't say I was particularly impressed - just wittering on about her sister, her family, her plants and her glittering lifestyle. No warmth, no connection and certainly no interest in the (decent) music she was playing.
