I'm not really worried about it, I never send anything too serious electronically. You can have real fun with it too, you can bury meaningless code words and other sensitive words in your e-mails knowing that lots of geeks, the Russians, the Americans and the Chinese at their "listening stations will be reading them and trying to work out what all your nonsense means. It works really well on Blogs- I had massive hits on my blog every time I mentioned the POTUS. 
I can see why other people are a bit miffed about it though, imagine if every time you posted a letter or card - someone opened it - photocopied it, then resealed it and sent it on its way - that's what they are going to do with all our e-mails.... so be careful what you say.... |

It's a completely unwarranted attempt to progress the 'Big Brother' state even further into the lives of ordinary people using the excuse of keeping terrorism in check
I'm sick to death of being monitored by cameras everywhere I go not because I am against the proper use of CCTV but quite simply because it isn't installed in most places where it is really needed to stop crime - unless you count putting a wheelie bin out two hours before the prescribed timeslot a criminal act 
Remember David Davies resigned his position in the Shadow Cabinet precisely on this issue of our basic civil liberties slowly and often furtively being eroded - we need people like him back in Government to stop this disgusting and dangerous state agenda
I will certainly sign the petition straight away

| I hope it won't just turn into another means of catching 'minor' misdemeanours instead of the 'major' crimes and terrorists they claim it's for, just like CCTV and other things did in certain areas. |

I'm not too worried about it. If you've got nothing to hide, there's no problem. Most of my texts and emails are just trivia, like most peoples'.
And how can they possibly find the funding to check the millions of messages sent every day? |

I'm not worried about it from my own point of view Schiz but I am very angry about it
As David Davis said on the BBC News tonight we have always had a system in our democracy of the establishment requiring a court order for this level of monitoring to take place and that provides safeguards for our individual human rights
The present system is perfectly adequate if the intention is to monitor serious terrorist activity and other criminal activities

That couldn't be further from the truth, Schiz. There is a massive potential problem.
The real issue is that they'll have the power not just to order up info from ISPs (which they can do now) but they'll have automatic access to every bit of information about your web usage - whether via landline or mobile. They'll also be able to see your whole internet history and list every IP address your connection has touched while online. And that's before the ease with which they can run a fast-scan across all your emails in order to detect the use of key words and phrases.
Personally, I think the whole thing is insidious and definitely the tip of the iceberg. Give the swines these powers and they'll start using them routinely before long.
The latest wheeze by that dodgy-looking Home Secretary Theresa May is that they want the power to gain access to the Royal Mail's automated sorting systems which currently scan addresses on mail and cache them "for statistical analysis purposes". Once Big Brother can routinely access the information they'll take yet another chip off the old block.

I completely agree Colin and in fact I participated in an on line discussion only last Tuesday with a number of concerned people including David Davis - but of course such on line activity is not necessarily the best way of pursuing our rights to personal privacy as you can bet that someone within the 'Big Brother' society will be keeping a close eye on events - and that's even before the current proposals become enshrined in law

I reckon it was more like 10 years out, as it was some time in the mid 1990s that cameras started to appear on most street corners in my neck of the woods, not to mention those on other premises! and we began to be unpaid TV 'stars'!
