Today's Telegraph reports that Jonathan Edwards is giving up presenting Songs of Praise on BBC1 because he is no longer convinced of the existence of God.

Does he need to do this? The main thrust of the programme is that the presenter talks to interviewees about THEIR faith. Also, the former Head of Religious Broadcasting at the BBC was an agnostic, who I assume saw his role as a management one.

What do others think about this?

Ian.

Does he need the dosh would be my first question.
Belief or not, would your principles come before a nice pay check from the BBC every month?.

If it was me just grit my teeth and think of the money!!!!!

You have to admire his honesty. Wasn't he the guy who wouldnt compete on Sundays because of his faith? He lost out on several medals because of that. It is doubly ironic if he now has a crisis of faith. He must rue missing the chances he passed up.

I too admired his honesty. I suppose when you've taken it seriously, if something comes along to make you doubt it then that must be taken seriously.

Contrast this with Diane Louise Jordan who pretended to be a devout Christian just to get the presenting job.

There are some daft quotes in that article.

They mention that he lives in a 6 bedroom house - What has that got to do with his "crisis of faith?" It fails to mention the number of bedrooms in the London apartment he bought though.

Also I cant believe that his marriage would break up because he has questioned the existence of God?

I think the article is hinting at something but because of the laws of libel they didn't spit it out.
