On Saturday 21st April Pick Of The Pops will have years 1958 and 2001. There is a big gap, they did 1999 the other week, but have they ever done over the years 2000 before?

I don't think so and I'll be giving that particular edition a miss on both counts Mad

It might be interesting to hear the tracks of the year before I was born, but the other one I'm not too fussed about!

Well 1958 should be safe enough - Little Richard, Elvis, Alma Cogan, Perry Como, Louis Prima, (at a guess, cos I can't find a website that goes that far back).
I've looked at 21st April 2001, and you don't want to know Rolling Eyes Laughing

Remember if listeners were 13 or younger in 2001 it be good. I think the new direction for Pick Of The Pops is right as younger listeners are tuning in now.

I think he means 13 in 2001, H - so 24 now.
That might explain this...

1. Emma Bunton
2. Shaggy
3. Janet Jackson
4. Gabrielle
5. Hear'Say
6. Gorillaz
7. Crazy Town
8. Atomic Kitten
9. Westlife
10. Robbie Williams
11. Wheatus
12. Li'l Bow Wow
13. Sugababes
14. Nelly Furtado
15. Faith Hill
16. Linkin Park
17. Norman Bass
18. M&S Presents Girl Next Door
19. Toploader
20. Chante Moore

I suppose, in truth, most of those are quite likely to pop up at any time on R2 daytime these days.

Interestingly (from a nerd's point of view) only two of positions 21-40 were on the way up, new entries by QB Finest feat NAS & Bravehearts and Jan Johnston, neither of whom got any higher.

How interesting Mr Swern - but why don't you come on here using your real name instead of impersonating this RockitRon character Laughing

What is it they say - many a true word spoken in jest Smile

Even so at 24 I wouldn't have dreamt of listening to Radio 2 Ron!

Am happy to have any year from 1952 to 2011 inclusive as long as all eras get a fair crack of the whip.

No, when we were 24, H, Radio 2 wore a different set of clothes.
My son is 24 and still prefers R1 in the car, although even he got fed up with the wall of jargon last night, when he was giving us a lift to where we were spending the evening. Coming home he switched to R2 - Dave Pearce - and got fed up waiting for him to stop talking and play something.

But I digress.
My point is that, in April 2001, Radio 2 would have been playing most of that Top 20, so they won't sound out of place, other than the fact that they won't sound very old.

Be that as it may Ron, as I recall, it was probably the less outlandish stuff from 2001 (with the possible exception of 'Gambo's' American hits show on Saturday evenings) that were played, but I also seem to recall a good mix of other stuff being mixed in with it, that has sadly now gone missing from the daytime shows. It was the days of the 'classic' Radio 2 Monday-Friday line up (well, my idea of it) i.e.
Mdt-3:00am - Janice Long
3:00-6:00am - Alex Lester
6:00-7:30am - Sarah Kennedy Dawn Patrol
7:30-9:30am - Wake Up To Wogan
9-30am-Noon - Ken Bruce
Noon-2:00pm - Jimmy Young (Jeremy Vine didn't take over til 2003)
2:00-5:00pm - Steve Wright (The only 'shouter' that I had to switch off)
5:00-7:00pm - Johnnie Walker Drivetime
Then various specialist shows till 10:30pm when Richard Allinson presented his Late Night Radio2 show till midnight (except Fridays) when it all started again with Janice Long.
Of course, the weekend line-up was completely different then as it is now.

So if your 24 now and 13 in 2001, does that mean the remit for Radio 2 is about 24 years old now? Only as Tony mentioned that this week, and also mentioned if you were 19 then and now 30 years old. It's interesting.
