We're not getting so many specials now at Bank Holidays(Cutbacks?)and many of these are repeats or normal programming...and we seem now to have Al Murray as a regular standin at holiday time and I don't find him particularly funny on the music programmes and though presenting is probably not easy I don't think he's that good but after wednesday I have Broadband so I can perhaps start to listen to other stations around the UK and abroad...Including Roger Day, Dave Cash and Keith Skues.
And some of the specials that crop up around the country on BBC Local Radio... |

Have to say, I liked Ryan Turbidy, Ken Bruce and Al Murray... but then the schedule went straight downhill. If other people are like me, they do a lot of a driving on a Bank Holiday Monday and I want a friendly voice and a variety of music to accompany me - neither of which I got from 4 solid hours of characterless soul music. |

Soul Music Show with Tony was brilliant. I heard Tony mention on BBC London a while back that people always ask him why he's not on 5 days a week. He's been offered shows, but not on stations which just play back to back same old songs. He would do a soul show 5 days a week if that was offered to him. He's happy with his weekend shows. Magic, KMFM, BBCR2 and BBC London. Plus the odd Bank Holiday on 2. |

I enjoyed the hour+ that I heard of Tony but agree that it seemed way too much soul with the Soul Train thing following. Bad scheduling IMHO.
Don't know about anyone else but I turned off after hearing too many people saying 'black music' didn't get shows dedicated to that genre. To me music is music whatever colour it is or comes from and I'm not sure we ever had 'white only music' shows. <annoyed>

We were driving back from Norfolk to sunny MK when Al Murray, and then Tony Blackburn was on. I enjoyed both, but have to admit that some of Blackburn's Soul choices were a bit bland. I'd have liked some more classic Atlantic and Stax - and a lot more Northern in the mix! |

I agree about the lack of Northern Soul and to me Soul and Tamla Motown are two closely related genres from the same stable but we hardly ever hear any decent Motown music on Radio Two these days
And I agree with Helen that music is music whatever its origin - after all we don't hear pieces by the likes of Mozart being labelled as 'Austrian Music' _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |
