There's an interesting article about 2Day with producer Al Booth on the BBC Ariel website: http://www.bbc.co.uk/ariel/13860556

Chris Evans mentioned this event could be back again soon, and this time he's doing Drivetime.

I didn't really enjoy last year's event, mainly because I thought the show's weren't long enough to allow them to gel. They had just got going when it was time for the next one!

I don't expect Clare Teal to say much as she's on with Gabbling Ball.....

The 7am slot is an interesting combination!

But who the bloody hell is David Rodigan?

Interesting that Alex Lester isn't in it again this year- last year he was on holiday: this year it's the day before his birthday - so maybe he's away this year too. It’s a tough choice I expect. Spend an hour on air with some obscure, vaguely-public figure, playing records you normally wouldn't, or fly to an exotic part of the world to drink beer in the sun on your birthday. What time did you say the plane was?

Shame Tony isn't doing soul show this time.

( On the other note. Tony can be heard across the Magic North network on Sunday from 4pm which is live, as well as his KMFM shows which is pre-recorded, and BBC London which is live, as well as Radio 2 on a Saturday )

I've no idea either Ian, but he has a nomination for this year's Sony's for best specialist music programme on Radio 2 'Something Else with David Rodigan. I've never heard it. Confused

Me neither Nod quite simply because the shows are too short to give any true idea of what the main features on Radio 2 are really like

These are 'one off' pairings which are unlikely ever to be repeated so how on earth can they give anyone a representative idea of the actual nature of the normal shows and presenters

It's just yet more Shennan madness Rolling Eyes

Much like R2 itself, these days. Shennan doh, has been an unqualified disaster, of titanic proportions. The only way to listen to it,I find, is with the listen again facility, as all the good stuff is usually on at 10 o'clock on weekdays. Even better, cherry pick the excellent archive documentaries that are broadcast on 6 Music.

I still enjoy R2 evenings, excluding Jo.W and C.W, but as you say too much good stuff too late.

I also listen to more 6music these days with M+R, Guy Garvey etc

I didn't listen to all of last year's, but some of what I heard worked - Simon Mayo and Jamie Cullum for instance - but, as H says, an hour is not long enough, and they spend so much time in explaining the purpose of the exercise and sometimes one half can't get a word in edgeways (David Jacobs was smothered by Michael Ball).

This year's lineup looks (even more) as if the names have been put into a tombola and no-one's emerged with a winning ticket (apart from Alex Lester and Mike Harding). It's something which might have been better scheduled for three days earlier, the May Bank Holiday.

I enjoyed David Jacobs & Michael Ball last year mainly because you got an opportunity to hear just how funny David can be. Also enjoyed the Tony Blackburn/Trevor Nelson pairing.

Not sure why they want to repeat it this year though. Yes it creates publicity for the station but it messes up the day for regular listeners. And if they are intent on mixing up the schedule just get the evening & weekend presenters on during the day by themselves.

You're not mistaken. It actually ran for 7 years!

Thanks for those dates Andy. It would have been towards the end of the run that I heard it. Jimmy Young must have been on a lot earlier back then!

I can also remember him being on a Saturday morning, around '83 ish, preceding SOTS. He frequently played tracks from Mack and Mabel which I was rather fond of at the time after Torvill and Dean had used the music for their ice dancing.

I was wrong! ( Write it down) Alex is in on 2-day. He's going to be on with Simon Mayo- doing.... country music, oh hang on, or maybe it was it country dancing- much the same anyway.... You can't beat a bit of Willie in the afternoon. Willie Nelson that is.

Seems that Johnnie Walker and Jeremy Vine are to be on comparing best opening lines of songs from the 70s and I think Jeremy is doing 80s. Don't quote me on the later year as someone spoke while the radio was on!

No doubt Jeremy will be banging on about that famous track with the classic opening line

'I saw a werewolf walking through the streets of London with a Chinese menu in his hand' by Warren someone or other - was it Zebon Confused

I can't recall whether it was 80's or early 90's offhand Smile

I was trying to remember the decade as well. That was the one that won the long process which actually did throw up some good lines.

I think he personally preferred other tracks, can't remember which though.

JV does seem obsessed by that awful Werewolves Of London song. He no doubt will play his beloved Elvis Costello as well.
I think he's stuck in the 80s even more than Steve Wright is.

Just an example flight time table.

Tell me about it, I used to have to book people there and it wasn't that easy! Without checking it will be via Aberdeen or maybe Edinburgh/Glasgow.

I also noticed it could either be via either the latter airports. I can't even think if the Radio 1 roadshow even went there?

I guess BBC Radio Orkney will help with the transmission?

No need. They'll just contract either Arqiva or SIS to provide a satellite uplink which will then bounce the signals to BH through the dish farm at Chalfont St. Giles.

Exactly Colin. I'd guess it will only be Ken and a producer who will need to go up there. Not sure what they will be covering up there but the Orkneys are part of the UK so as entitled to a visit as anywhere else is.

I'm wondering as well Ruddles. I know I wasn't dreaming it when I heard Jeremy mention it, even if I was still a bit jet lagged.

That said Jeremy is doing more Eggheads for this week and next so maybe they shelved the idea?

Yes Helen - you weren't dreaming because I definitely heard it as well but looking on the R2 Website there's absolutely no reference to it - a shame really because it was the only thing on R2 today I was really looking forward to - Oh well, back to Mark Goodier Sad

Ruddles

Hearing the schedule again a few minutes ago I wonder if Jeremy will be on sometime with Claudia Winkelman at 5? I think I heard him mention her name in connection with something for 2Day, not at the same time as the JW thing I hasten to add!

Haven't been here for a while! Just thought I'd pop in to see what's going on. I enjoyed Graham Norton's show this morning - and did anyone hear Zoe Ball mentioning David Jacobs earlier? She said he's recovering from an operation. Hopefully that means when the current series of repeats finishes he'll be back on his regular Sunday show.

David Rodigan did a reggae show on Radio 2 in the Autumn (Thursday nights at 11) - details at http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b012rw60. Somethin' Else is the production company, not the name of the show. I'm listening to him talking to Vanessa Feltz now, looks like his show is back from May 21.
