My wife's friend is an experienced Social Worker. She is evidently very good at her job - which, let's be honest, is a thankless task, especially in this age of sweeping and devastating Tory cutbacks. Recently, she got bleeped at 9.00pm and asked to go and make arrangements for a young girl whose parents were seriously injured in a road traffic accident. She was up all night making arrangements for the child's temporary care - and then went back to work in the morning. She said "it's what she gets paid to do".

It's easy to give Social Services a bad rap, but not always is it deserved......

My experience of Social Services is that they interfere in cases (usually through their obsession with political correctness) in circumstances where there is no possible justification for such actions but yet they fail to properly deal with very serious cases involving major risks to children ranging from neglect through to starvation and sadly even violence and ultimately death at the hands of their own families

And why does this situation arise - quite simply because many of the cases involve parents from ethnic minority communities and the SS are scared to death of acting lest they be labelled as 'racist'

Of course there are some good people engaged in that area of work but the problem is the culture which prevails within such organisations which to me sums up in a nutshell pretty much all that is bad about Britain in the twenty first century Sad

So, to whom are we giving the bad rap? The individual trying to perform her/his best under increasingly difficult circumstances or those responsible for the top-down culture that pervades in the service?

Our friend is constantly sneered at when she explains to others that she's a Social Worker - and that's neither fair nor constructive.

As I tried to suggest it's more the culture which pertains within the SS which creates the major problem rather than necessarily the actions of individuals - but having said that I think the role of social worker does tend to attract a certain type of person who generally relishes a role in which they can enforce their ridiculous politically correct based views on others knowing full well they have the backing of the establishment on their side and their actions are generally unchallengeable not least because there is so much secrecy especially in childcare cases with courts sitting behind closed doors so the general public does not see what goes on - believe me people would be shocked if they did Shocked

By this the SS can effectively get away with almost anything they like because nobody is allowed to talk about these cases and if anyone is brave enough to go public they risk imprisonment for contempt of court

The SS system is the nearest thing we have in this country to a police state and the whole thing is corrupt and rotten from top to bottom but it will never change quite simply because it's not in the interests of the establishment to change it Sad

There are myriad issues to be addressed in this sorry story ( not least why Georgia was allowed to be her Mother's registered carer and presumably being paid for it whilst patently being unable to do so) but language like that is unlikely to help... Rolling Eyes

And the problem is that opinions (such as Mark's) are formed on the basis of what they read in the insidious Murdoch Mafia rag known as The Sun.

Personally, I wouldn't give that publication the benefit of a backlink to its website.

I think Georgia mum had to become the carer in the long run. How on earth could she Care for her mum? She couldn't even move out of the chair. Who on earth feed her the food which I asked at the beginning of the thread?

(The anxious mum said “There’s a lot going on right now. No S***! ) -(She was suffering from crippling aches and Type 2 diabetes. And medics warned her: “Lose 20 stone or die.” - Did she not listen to the concerns? )

Obviously there are two ways you need to look at this. Not always the persons fault. I do feel sorry for her - as she seems to have done a lot to help herself, but something triggered her to back track.

Perhaps not, but by drawing attention to the writings of the Sun you're adding credence to the source.

It was also illustrated in many media outlets.

Most of them probably connected with the Murdoch Mafia Sad

How any even averagely intelligent person can still be reading The Sun is absolutely beyond me Evil or Very Mad

So why not select one instead?

The basis of my criticism above is that any backlink to a web page (whether it's ever clicked or not) gives the landing page a higher status with Google and other search engines, so when I said that a backlink gives the source credence, I was thinking primarily in terms of search engine optimisation: Google ranks the source more highly where there are more qualified backlinks to it from third-party sites.

Setting aside all the moral issues - I refuse to even read anything from The Sun let alone give it backlinks - I don't want to see its ranking increased with Google. The Murdoch Mafia does not deserve it.
