I was watching Top of the Pops 2 a few minutes ago with my 18 year old son when inevitably the classic Sex Pistols track came on and it certainly rolled back all those years for me

So my son suggested that we download the track and said that he was going to suggest to all his friends and contacts that they did so also in the hope of getting a bandwagon rolling in order to try to get the track back in the charts 35 years after the original Silver Jubilee event

Now I don't use things like Twitter of other similar sites but I just wonder whether anyone else has had the same idea - does anyone know?

There must be many anti monarchists and nostalgia merchants as well as music lovers who would love to see the track go one better than it's original chart position of number two in 1977 which it achieved despite (some may say because of) being banned by the BBC at that time

I just wonder whether privately it might even strike a chord with Her Majesty - I'm sure her husband would see the funny side Smile

Throughout the year there have been several Facebook groups that have tried to drum up support for the idea, but sadly nothing has come of it.

Pity - because the Sex Pistols' "God Save The Queen" is quite possibly my favourite single of all time! I dug out and played the single only the other day (no, not the A&M one, unfortunately).

I was listening to an interview with John Lydon on radio today and strangely enough it would seem that he's not in favour of the campaign to get the track back in the charts - apparently there is a possibility that it could happen not least because of the relatively few units which need to be sold in order to get a track into the charts these days

His view is that the track is 'of its time' written as a result of the way the band felt back in 1977 which is not necessarily the way the remaining members feel today

I have to say I find that rather sad but I suppose he must have his reasons - perhaps he's worried about losing a lucrative contract to advertise butter Rolling Eyes

I still hope the track at least gets back into the charts on Sunday even if not in the Number One position Very Happy

I can well understand that. After all, those that survive are Old Men now! It was indeed of its time. In fact, the song should only be heard playing off an original 45rpm single - nothing else sounds right!
