In the light of yet another U-turn by this lame excuse of a Chancellor and the sheer lack of common sense demonstrated in the formulation of the last Budget, guess the odd one out in this list:
Lord Stevenson, former chairman, HBOS Bank;
Andy Hornby, former CEO, HBOS Bank;
Sir Fred Goodwin, former CEO, RBS Bank;
Sir Tom McKillip, former chairman, RBS Bank;
John McFall MP, chairman, Treasury Select Committee;
Alistair Darling, ex Chancellor of the Exchequer;
Sir Terry Wogan, former presenter of the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show
The answer?
It’s Terry Wogan, the only one with a formal banking qualification.
The paucity of real financial acumen and talent in this country is becoming serious. |

And that's despite the ridiculous over inflated salaries and bonuses on offer to these incompetent people
The argument made against reducing their remuneration is always that it would cause many to leave the country and work abroad - well if that's the case good riddance to them - it might create some opportunities for new talent

How right you are. In a rather heated telephone discussion I had with our "Commercial Relationship Manager" at LloydsTSB a couple of months back, I go a bit impatient with this faceless individual at the other end of the phone and asked him a question to which I knew the answer: "Have you ever set up and run a business of your own?".
I knew the answer already, and he confirmed it.
It appears that so many of our leading commercial and public institutions these days are run by people who have not one iota of common sense! |
