I really couldn't believe it when I heard this evening that the Olympic Torch had today been in Dublin

Correct me if I am wrong but I was under the impression that Dublin was the capital city of a foreign state which before achieving its independence was responsible for the killing of hundreds of loyal British troops in a bid to achieve independence

Isn't it amazing that as soon as things go wrong not only do we as British taxpayers have to bail them out but we have to suffer the indignity of our Olympic flame lowering itself to have to visit an indepenedent state which has no connection whatsoever with the 2012 Olympics

And of course just to add insult to injury we are stuck with presenters like Ryan Tubridy polluting the airwaves of Radio 2

I really am beginning to get so angry right now that I could throw the mouse down to bring up to date the old 'Mr Angry' comment Evil or Very Mad

I'd not heard this Ruddles as I'd not seen much TV news yesterday. The sound was down and I did see the torch 'somewhere' but I've 'switched off' from anything Olympics just now.

Must say it's rather a bizarre move.

It's not really a question of anyone 'having a problem' - the whole thing simply does not make any sense

Ireland is a foreign country within the EU exactly like France,Spain,Germany and a whole host of other places so why should Ireland be treated as a special case?

I'm all in favour of spreading goodwill wherever possible but I just don't understand the logic in this case Confused

I am a "plastic padd" ie my parents were Irish have to say this is an odd move but like Helen I missed this because i am so sick of the olympics already.

Ticket sales have slowed down and it's not a surprise when cheapest ticket is £995 now

Ruddles don't agree with your comment about Ryan tbh,it shouldn't have anything to do with having an Irish accent

Without getting into the intricacies of "The Troubles" I'm just glad we've moved on.

As for Ryan, I quite like him and don't think he pollutes the airways any more than Norton or Wogan

If it all adds to the peace process I don't think anyone can object to the flame crossing the border into the Republic. The main thing is that it spends some time in Northern Ireland.
It was nice to see Mary Peters, golden pentathlete from 1972, being interviewed.

I'm sure that at least part of the reason for the flame going to Ireland was to show we have indeed moved on, can only be a good thing I think.
