It is and quite rightly he's very proud of it, also in his younger days he played on tour with Jerry Lee Lewis & Gene Vincent among others.
More importantly you could not meet nicer bloke, always cheerful with no airs & graces, an absolutely top fella.

I haven't actaully seen the film but I have recorded it so I'll have to see if he's on there. He was in a band called The Saints who I think were Joe Meek's house band.

He does still drum at bit, in a group that plays all kinds of 60's music. They generally play small venues like British Legion clubs & steam rallies, etc.

Finally got round to watching it, the person I know was not in it, probably a good thing given how some of the others were portrayed.

A good film, but called me old fashioned there was quite a lot of swearing and the bit where Joe shot himself was rather graphic Shocked

A picture of them,Toggy.

Very Happy

In the Arena programme, on BBC,a while ago Heinz said he hadn't had a sexual relationship with Joe Meek which wasn't how the film showed it.

I'm surprised, given the way he acted half the time, that anyone worked with Joe Meek ...Shocked

Telstar was Maggie Thatcher's favourite pop song.......

Did anyone notice that John Leyton played Sir Edward Lewis of Decca records who presented Joe with an award in the film?

I agree with you,Toggy about the scene where Joe killed himself..... Shocked

I finally watched it last night and loved it. Rather a sad story, though Meek was rather a nasty piece of work.
I loved all the references to future stars (even if they were a bit contrived), eg a young John Peel doing an interview, a certain Mersey Beat combo managed by Brian Epstein who Meek said were rubbish, Tom from South Wales, and young Ritchie Blackmore, Chas Hodges, Mitch Mitchell etc.
Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Something of a howler, too! John Peel went to California and was working for a radio station in 1966 (he became the station's "Beatle expert" due to being a scouser) and when he returned to the UK he worked for the pirate station Radio London, after which he moved to Radio One a couple of months after the pirates were sunk in August 1967. In the Meek film he was supposed to be a reporter for the NME. Oh really? That was just a plain stupid contrivance - and calls into question the integrity of other elements of the screenplay.

I have it on very good authority that Screaming Lord Sutch rarely swore and never used the F word.

I guess as with many things of this ilk there is always a bit of 'artistic licence'

I think it's Joe Orton you're thinking of,littlepieces, who was murdered by his boyfriend,Kenneth Halliwell who then took his own life.....there was no shooting involved.
