On Saturday night/Sunday morning, I had the most weird dream....... it started like this, I'd had some sort of accident and I was in hospital, in a bed: the doctor said, there's nothing for it Mrs H – we're going to have to remove the inner part of your brain – the Cerebral Cortex. Is that serious I asked: not at all Mrs H, the Dr replied, it's like the Appendix, humans don't need it. What?! We don't need a brain? . It's not your whole brain Mrs H , just the useless spongy bit in the middle. You'll never miss it. Oh well that's ok then- where do I sign? And so off I went. I woke up post-operative, hanging by my ankles from a bar over a bed. The Dr came on his rounds. What's the deal with this hanging upside down Doc, I asked. Oh you'll have have to live upside down forever now Mrs H, that's part of the recovery-process- didn't you read the small print? You have to live upside down forever. But won't I get kicked in the face when I'm on the tube? Probably yes. And I've got to be upside down forever? Yep- otherwise the rest of your brain will fall out – and that would never do.

There is a solution though. OK what's that then, I asked. Oh we just remove your body and discard it, you don't really need it- someone else can carry you around. Do I still have to be upside down? Yes but we can reconfigure your eyes – so you'll think that you're the right way up.

In my dream I decided that this wasn't going to end well, so with the click of my fingers – I became the Dr and my first patient for this process was George Osborne. I removed the inner part of his brain. He seemed happy with the result but like me wasn't keen on the living upside down forever bit. He hadn't read the smallprint either. Won't I get kicked in the face when I'm on the tube, he asked. I explained that he could opt for the second phase – do away with his body- have his eyes reconfigured and spend the rest of his life being carried around- he was keen to proceed.

Then the dream took a new turn, I became George Osborne's carer and was left with the task of carrying him around- well just his head: to make it easy to do, I put his head in an empty football box- a cardboard-box, you know the sort of thing , the kind of box a football comes in. His upside down, chubby little face poking out of one side. Anyway, then the dream turned into one of those obstacle dreams where you have to get through impossible situations and obstacles. Rope bridges and the like. We came, George and I, to a door, we opened the door, well: I opened the door because George was just his head, upside down in a football box. We walked into a full cinema: I thought, doh; I'm going to have to ask everyone in this row to stand-up so we can get by. Someone grabbed George and threw him into the rows to the right, they started to play keepie-uppie with George while I battled my way through the reluctant crowd- I got to the other side, they threw George back and out we went into the car-park, which turned into a beach … and then I woke up.

Well Rach in my lifetime I've had two nightmare dreams which both came true in real life - one of them the following day Shocked

Lets just hope it doesn't happen to you otherwise it could give a whole new meaning to the phrase 'budget box' Smile

I think it must have been the Chinese food we had on Saturday night, LP,.. Deep fried crab claws, special fried rice, Flying Dragon, special sweet and sour and some mini crispy roll things with squidgy stuff in them. Lots of black bean sauce too.

I hope my dream doesn't come true Rudds. I don't want to be kicked in the face whilst on the tube. Smile

In my dream last-night, I was working on a market-stall in Camden, selling second-hand CDs: Lord Sugar turned up with a suitcase full of old Acid-House type CDs wanting to sell them. I said to him, when he asked, how much this lot princess, you couldn’t give em away my old china , no one listens to that rubbish anymore, try the gardening stall, three down on the left. Then for some reason, he morphed into a giant clown and started to sing clown type music as he made his way down the road.. du du duda-luddle lit dud duda luddle l…… then I was riding a horse on a beach….

Tell me your dreams….. am I in them? Which track?.

It's very strange - I find that I have a propensity to remember my dreams far more when I'm lying asleep on my left side rather than my right one

Obviously I know that we all thrash around during sleep and might turn over without being aware but certainly when I wake up from a dream it's always lying on my left side

I've sometimes even being able in a way to control my dreams because if I wake up but still half asleep I can sometimes choose whether I want the dream to resume or not depending on how I position my body

I just wonder whether this is unusual of whether anyone has had any similar experiences? Smile

No idea, and no. There's no discernable pattern to mine.

Ooh, now that would be telling!

I think I need some of those deep fried crab claws and wandering dragon (what's flying dragon?) - most of my dreams are about work, something which I had hoped would have stopped when I said goodbye five years ago.
The last one had me dressed in pyjamas and slippers, and running a branch at the top of the Glenfinnan Monument. After I'd bounced his cheque for £5,000 to PPIClaims4U and called him a despicable toad, an irate double glazing salesman picked up the statue of Prince Charles Edward Stuart and threw it at the viaduct just as the Hogwarts tube train (in an underground version of the HP films, starring Alan Carr, Ken Livingstone and Sally Bercow) was crossing. Unfortunately I woke up before it reached its target.

No, I can't buy a decent dream

Flying Dragon, Ron, is a dish in the Chef's Special section of our local takeaway's menu.... 'Flying Dragon'...is King Prawns, Beef, Roast Pork with Green peppers and Black Bean sauce... tis quite yummy.

Wandering Dragon also on the menu... is Chicken, Beef and Roast Pork in Oyster Sauce. We've not tried that one.

Cool dream too, Ron. Although I read Wok for Work. Smile

I dream all the time- sometimes when I'm awake... well upright.

Certainly we all dream for a large part of the time when we're asleep and I was once told by some medical expert that if we did not dream we would actually be dead - dreaming is an essential part of being alive

However none of us remember the vast majority of our dreams although of course some people have more vivid dreams than others and thus tend to remember them when other who have less vivid dreams people might not

I gather that when we dream our brains are effectively reviewing events and information from our daily lives though not necessarily our recent lives and I'm sure we all have had instances of dreaming about things in our early childhood - it's very strange the way the whole thing works

I recall that for a while there was a guy on the SW show on Mondays who was an interpreter of dreams but unless he knew the person having the dream very well and the full history of their life I doubt whether realistically he could come up with anything other than a general view

One thing I think is true is that very often where we have suffered a bereavement after a while the deceased person will reappear to us in a dream as a kind of way or reassuring us that everything is fine and we should draw a line under our sadness and get on with our lives - I've even known this to happen with pets as well as human relatives

I think this whole subject is quite fascinating and it's a great thing to share the contents of your dreams with others - so long as they are not indecent of course Laughing

A new dream last night. I love dreams. This was about our neighbour, directly opposite, but in the dream their house was a shop not a house. The shop looked derelict – so hubby and I went over to see why- cos only the day previous, it was fine. We found a few items on the shelves but just a few, one of which was a carved wooden pig which had been sliced many times front to back –( like feeler gauges) and pinned together at one end to make a sort of expanding fan. I liked that. I wondered if it had belonged to a butcher’s wife. Lots of other people came in, I said to one chap, this would make a good squat, if you wanted to live here. I don’t know why I said that. We went back home: a few minutes later, the milkman knocked on our door, he was clutching a large bag of junk: he said, your neighbours have done a runner owning me £500, they’ve left this bag of junk as payment, I want you to talk to them and sort this lot out!

We spent the next day sifting through the junk, categorising it, alphabetising it, bagging it and tagging it, and generally sorting it out. The milkman returned the next day. Have you sorted everything out, he asked? Yes we have- here it is , it’s all in alphabetical, colour-coded and usefulness order. There’s a fine array of broken watches here- starting with the pink ones on the left, graduating in colour to right with the black ones on the extreme right. These ones are broken, these ones work etc etc , there’s some old CDs here from Abba to ZZ Top. The Milkman looked confused- he said, I wanted you to sort out my £500. I said, but you didn’t give us £500 to sort out, you gave us a bag of junk, which we have beautifully sorted out for you. But what about my £500 he yelled. I said, well, when you give us your £500, we’ll sort it out for you, we’re very good at sorting things out.

Gosh, Rach, if you're as busy as that in your sleep, what are you like during the day? Laughing

Me, nothing. Except a stiff neck.

Not on this open forum anyway
Funnily enough, since this thread started I've noticed we've had a lot of "guests" at times.

Most nights I have really bright colourful dreams, Ron. Although last night my dream was quite frustrating, cos I spent the entire night in a Cornish beach café negotiating some secure locker-space for my valuables – so I could go surfing without worry but the local people in there were not pleased that I thought that I needed somewhere safe to put my stuff: just leave it on the beach they said, these lockers are for us. I couldn’t make them see that if they thought they needed a secure locker, (cos they were all in use) then why would they think I should be any different. In the end, I negotiated part of a shelf next to some empty ice-cream tubs in a lockable fridge, then we all went surfing.

I had a really weird dream last night- I was driving around in a light blue BMW Mini One Cabriolet with a youngish Mrs Thatcher in the passenger seat: the weather was fantastic: she had her bare feet up on the dashboard and was smoking a cigarette through one of those really long holder things. Very laid back I thought. I was taking her all around the places she had always wanted to go but didn’t get around to it- the car could fly, which was way-cool-beans. We had a fab time- a real hoot. At the end I dropped her off at the pearly gates, I said to her, just wait here- someone will be out to meet you in a minute…..Then I woke up. Such a clear dream.

Save perhaps for the Queen Mother, I cannot think of anyone else whose death has so popularly and for so long been anticipated.

I was half expecting to hear on the 07:00 news that she'd gone in the night. I wonder what triggered my dream: perhaps it was Jezza Vine's programme about her last week. I met her once. I model my management style on hers. She's cool-beans.

I'm not sure that I would want to model my management style on any politician. Still, better her's than Andrew Mitchell

(My wife once met Mrs T's predecessor, Edward Heath. Bit of a cold fish, apparently, even then.)

If I were to base my management style on anyone it would be Nye Bevan. He knew exactly what he wanted, what he expected of others and wouldn't take no for an answer. The NHS was just one of the things that resulted from his dogged determination. He'd also worked down the pits in South Wales - a national political figure having done a real job before joining politics in order to further a cause. Now there's a rarity.

As for Margaret Thatcher.............. Rolling Eyes

Substitute jobs as research chemist for the plastics and food industry (making use of her university education) for the pits in South Wales, and I think you have described Margaret Thatcher.

Yes, that's very true. I don't knock Thatcher's drive and determination at all. Nor I do I deny her the unprecedented success she had in all that she set out to achieve. I just disagreed vehemently with her politics and I still do.

That's why I regard Aneurin Bevan as an infinitely better role model.

Sadly I have never had the pleasure of meeting the Iron Lady face to face and would have loved to have done so - but as I've mentioned recently I did used to be a friend of her Parliamentary Private Secretary who was MP for Chester in the eighties and so in those days I could quite honestly say I could pick up the phone to Downing Street if I needed to because that's where he was based during normal working hours and sometimes at other times - of course nobody ever believed me because they assumed I was talking about Maggie - fat chance of anything like that happening now Smile

There are times, no doubt, in all of our lives, Rudds, that we are in positions that at the time is just "stuff that we do" it is only later, on reflection, that we realise just how lucky, perhaps even how unique a position we were in. For a time in the early 90s (89-94) I worked in a small military unit providing "media training" to Government Ministers and senior officers in the armed forces. It was amazing: I got to fly in proper jelly-copters, ride in tanks and not only to meet face to face but to give lectures to, many of the people in Governement at the time, often, one on one. Whitehall was like a second home. Sadly the unit was disbanded under the Armed Forces "options for change programme"- we were all made redundant.

That was a particularly interesting time in politics Rach - you must have been in post at the time Maggie was ousted from the Party Leadership and presumably during the early part of the Major premiership

I spoke with Peter Morrison face to face a few days after Maggie's famous appearance at the British Embassy in Paris and of course he was there by her side when she made the announcement that she intended to put her name forward in the second round of voting -lots of people criticised that decision but he stood by her right to the final resignation and I got the impression he totally lost interest in politics after that time - sadly he died a few years later and we ended up with Gyles Brandreth as our MP - a very nice chap but in my experience celebrities getting involved in serious politics very rarely works Smile

I had a chocolate biscuit before going to bed last night and this was the result:-

Chris Evans bought a run-down pub just down the road from us: while it was being renovated he needed somewhere to stay with his family. Bingo! He asked if he could come and stay with us: ( God knows why- he doesn't know me) although in the dream we didn't live here where we do now, it was a much bigger more scooby do style house. Anyway we said yeah, why not, the more the merrier... so we gave him the west wing... and in, he and his family all moved. It was something to do with us having great schools here. It was kinda strange. We chatted about all sorts of nonsense and played video games in the evenings... driving ones mainly, GT4 etc... he got jolly miffed because the girls, that's Tash and I, kept beating him. Hubby got Chris into a deep theological discussion from which I rescued him with a large tray of lasagne and several bottles wine... anyway the pub was renovated in about six months, they moved out - well into the pub and I woke up.

What was that all about!?

My first Chris Evans dream- it was so detailed - even down to the whiskers and aftershave..... it turns out he's quite normal really, although not very good at GT4......

Usually if it's a R2 dream, I dream about Alex Lester but under very different circumstances.

Any dream analysts out there?

You should phone in Rach when Steve Wright has that bloke on who does dream analysis on his Monday show - I'll guarantee you'll get on there if you mention Mr Evans Rolling Eyes

He's not on every Monday - only about once a month because the rest of the time they alternate between astrologers but there again you probably knew that already Smile

Oh and by the way try eating cheese instead of biscuits - I have some great dreams after a few chunks of cheese especially if I have raw garlic with it Very Happy
