Is going to be announced that some military platoons will be merged with some army personal cuts.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-18716101

____________

They always say the army are cutting personal, but they are recruiting at the same time.

It's not just "platoons" it's whole regiments!

Recruitment is taking place, but not of foot soldiers. It's people with highly specialised skills that are required. My son's friend has just joined a military unit after graduating as a software engineer; my son himself is a qualified and experienced mechanical engineer and he was told by someone in the know that he should consider joining a branch of the military as his skills are on the "wanted" list, but he doesn't want to.

It's high-level skills that are needed these days, hence the continuing recruitment drive, and rightly so. Trouble is that, since the early 80s, Britain hasn't encouraged young people to take up one of the engineering disciplines so a lot of organisations are having recruitment problems. You can't resolve international conflicts militarily with Media Studies degrees.

The Government have cut the military too much. Frigates and Aircraft Carriers shouldn't have been scrapped. There needs to be more maritime equipment. We have been bogged down in Afghanistan and places like that. It's these things should have been sorted out before things were cut.

I'm amazed some are about to lose their jobs, but deployed to help out the fiasco that G4S have bought upon the Olympic games. Maybe this was the plan in the first place? I think Cameron should think about the Home Secretary position, as she can't run that department and forgets more than she remembers.

We've already had enough Home Secretaries recently, about 6 in 6 years?
We don't need yet another clueless idiot replacing another.

The Home Office knew of the G4S chaos some 10 months ago. Obviously she should have her job reviewed, with the on going chaos at immigration at Heathrow she needs to get a grip of the situation and her department.

So it's not eh... or what ever you say? It's a bloody disgrace...
