Phew! well done Andy. I really hope he makes to the final this year, he deserves to.
Federer seems on fire at the moment, on this form I can see him winning the title. |

I couldn't watch today's quarter-final match, so perhaps that's why he did well to get through. Shall I abstain from watching the semi? |

Well played Andy!
I had my doubts about him coming through today's match but I'm happy to say he proved me wrong ...now for the lovely Tsonga, who against any other I would be cheering for...
Sorry to see Miss Lisicki go out.... |

Djokovic just wasn't firing on all cylinders today...I thought this would be a classic match with the honours going to Djokovic but well done to Roger going through to his seventh final ...that's quite an achievement!

From the BBC website
Roger Federer Wimbledon bet could win Oxfam more than £100,000
Oxfam could be set to reap more than £100,000 in winnings if a late benefactor's Wimbledon wager comes off.
In 2003 Nick Newlife, from Oxfordshire, put £1,520 on six-time champion Roger Federer winning seven Wimbledon titles by 2019, at odds of 66/1.
He died aged 59 in 2009 but had left the betting slip, potentially worth £101,840, to Oxfam in his will.
Oxfam spokesman said "we will be keeping our fingers firmly crossed for Federer's success".......

Wonderful achievement for Murray...
More good news followed with Jonny Marray and his partner Freddie Nielsen beating the formidable Bryan brothers....
A great day for British tennis.... |

I remember Freddie's grandfather Kurt in the singles finals in the 1950s when I first became interested in tennis (at a very young age ) |

Congratulations to Andy, a brilliant achievement. What I do find slightly depressing is the people who insist on doing him down because of the way he is. OK he won't win any personality contests but he's a tennis player not a rock star or TV presenter.
Many seem to overlook the fact he's one of the best tennis players this country has produced in recent times.
I wasn't surprised that Federer won, indeed because of my prediction of a Federer/Murray a colleague won a bit of money on a flutter he had. |

Anyone watching the men's doubles final? It's great stuff and our Brit Jonny Marray and Dane Freddie Nielsen are 2-1 up in sets but now the rain covers are being pulled on.
They are back playing now with the roof in place.
And Marray and Nielsen have won! Fantastic match. A wild card pairing have won over the seeded pair for whom this, sadly for them, is the third year in a row that they have been beaten in the final. |

It was fantastic Eileen! As they said a fairy tale ending. Just finished watching the womens doubles which followed on from it.
We've now just got to wait for Andy. I'm not sure what time it actually starts. I thought it was at 2 but they are saying it will be live on HD at 3.30 so it must be delayed.

Helen, the Wimbledon website says it's a 2pm start. I can't think why it would be delayed till 3.30 so I'll be switched on and ready at 2 just in case.
I didn't watch the women's doubles as I felt it would have been an anti-climax after the Marray/Nielsen match and anyway I'd seen enough of the Williams's to last me a while. |

Thanks Eileen, I wondered if it was because of the F1.
I must admit I didn't do much checking but it kept flashing across the screen during the doubles match and John Inverdale kept on about HD at 3.30 which I thought somewhat confusing
I hadn't intended to watch the women but just left it on while I was doing a few things and sort of got into it!

Poor Andy. I half expected Sue Barker to give him a hug, I know I wanted to. He'll come back though.

I felt for him. He gave a good fight, but started to look tired after the second set. There's no doubt that Federer gained from the period of rest that the rain gave them.
I did say I wasn't going to watch the final because it would inevitably be bad luck for Murray (he loses whenever I watch him play).
I watched. He lost. Ooops. Sorry, but I couldn't resist it. |

Yeah, he started well but wilted. One elderly commentator said the closing of the roof favoured Federer because he plays better indoors ........ _________________ -

Poor Andy, I just wanted to give him a cuddle.
He played well but Federer was in a different class, not really much you can do when somebody is at the top of their game like that.
Always next year I suppose |

I have never had tears in my eyes after a Wimbledon final before but when Andy was breaking down ...
The papers this morning were full of Andy and his prospects, but I wish that they had given more prominence to Marray and Nielsen after their triumph in the doubles. |

I think that the media in their usual distorted way have placed far too much emphasis on Murray losing, how he lost and all the after match stuff including that emotional but at times rather silly interview instead of giving Federer the very great credit he deserves in equalling the Sampras record and playing fantastically as world number one at the age of thirty
Frankly I don't think Murray will ever win any major tournament unless and until he finds a way of controlling his emotions and chanelling that energy into striving to do better next time round _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

Personally, I think his emotional reaction to the day's events were quite natural, and I don't see what the problem is. Given his age, I think he'll be very capable of "controlling his emotions and chanelling that energy into striving to do better next time round" as time goes by.
Give the guy a break! He did exceedingly well and I've no doubt that he'll achieve his primary goal eventually. That's what sport is all about, after all. |

Yes Colin I do agree that the emotional reaction immediately after such a momentous match was perfectly understandable and my criticism is not directed at Murray but rather at the TV people who,in my opinion, should have stopped the initial interview as soon as it became apparent that Murray was having problems with his emotions and rerun a fresh version somewhat later after Murray had been given time to compose himself
They should have gone straight to the main interview with Federer thus giving him the respect he deserves for his great achievement in matching the previous record
The final will now be remembered for Murray's tears instead of what it should be remembered for - a great match won by the best player in the world today - and that's no criticism of Murray - it's criticism of the production crew within BBC OB who should have had the sense to have reacted to events _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

I bet his PR advisor was happy with his "media moment" though! |

Ruddles, I agree, the match should be remembered for Federer's victory rather than Murray's defeat.
It's also a pity that Jonathan Marray's men's doubles victory wil be overlooked by Murraymania. |
