I think they changed the locks at Radio One after he was booted out last time, Helen!!!

BTW - Nick Grimshaw is taking over the show when Moylesy leaves. Moyles will be playing the part of Herod in the Andrew Lloyd-Webber's re-incarnation of "Jesus Christ Superstar" (geddit?) at the end of the year. I think he'll be good in that role and I'm pleased to see him taking some risks with his career.

I'm not a huge fan of Moyles but he's tolerable compared to Nick Grimshaw, who's just a preening idiot.

I think Radio 1 will miss Moyles but wasn't there a report saying the station had to appeal to younger listeners?

Just on the news......
Radio 1 is supposed to aim at the under 30's. The new guy is 27 and has a very strong accent.....I wonder if it will be broadcast from Salford?

I'd be surprised if it were because Radio One is very much based at the new Broadcasting House extension and all the existing production team (and core facilities) are there. It's an integrated operating unit. I know that some other R1 productions originate from other locations but the Breakfast show is the flagship show and that requires a bigger level of resourcing.

When BBC TV Breakfast News was relocated to Salford Quays (a daft, politically-correct, decision in my view) it wasn't just some presenters that moved but many of the 104-strong production team as well - against the wishes of the majority, as it happens.

One of the reasons for Mark & Lard getting the push from the Radio 1 Breakfast Show was because it was broadcast from Manchester and the bosses didn't like it. I can't see them doing that again.

Moyles did sign a contract until 2014 which could open doors for him to cover shows at Radio 1, possible weekends - and maybe move to Radio 2 or Five Live? I guess Dave Vitty and him will part company like Mark and Lard did. Possible Dave will move to Five Live sports as he done a few shows at the station in the past and will be during the Olympics. In the mean time Moyles is to take the part of King Herod in the new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar which starts in September. He's also recording the second series of the "Love Machine " soon. Time is probably right for Radio One as they move forward to a younger audience. Chris Moyles is well known so he won't be short of offers

I submitted my news copy quite a way up the page Mark!

That won't affect anything. Usually audience quiz shows are recorded in blocks, with often 5 editions being recorded in a day - much like Jeremy Vine does with Eggheads at BBC Scotland.

I know he's recording Love Machine in the next few weeks. First series was recorded last year and aired earlier this year.

I think Love Machine is recorded differently to the others, Colin.

Worth noting that Moyles still has a Radio 1 contract, not BBC-wide, but I think he is doing something on Radio 2 soon (it was hinted at on Radio 4's The Media Show yesterday).

Also, he was very definitely pushed but for some reason the Radio 1 controller won't say so in so many words. The whole situation reminds me a bit of Jimmy Young.

As Terry Wogan said, the time to go is when you know you're still loved (but know that it can't last much longer), and I think Moyles is at the far end of that time-frame.

Eight years is a long time for a young audience, and for Radio 1. Those who warmed to his rants and japes, and welcomed him after the Ball and Cox years, have hopefully matured; those in the station's preferred age-range probably now think of him as a grumpy old man... which is what he is. He's been losing market share and it's time to bring in a younger person.

There was a report in May that he was in discussions with Radio 2 about a series on 1980s music, something for which he has a passion, apparently.
When not given licence to ramble on endlessly he can be interesting and eloquent, so that could be good.

I agree, and I quite like Chris Moyles. He used to work on what used to be our "local" IR station Horizon (now part of the appalling Heart network) before his R1 days and I always enjoyed listening to him. He was a buddy to a close friend of mine, the late Big George Webley (the bloke who wrote the "Have I Got News For You" theme and who did a BBC London show until his death 15 months ago), and when they both got together on air they'd have some fascinating conversations about music that were indeed interesting and eloquent.

What I also like about Moyles is that he has a very good sense of humour which is based upon self-depracation.

I think there's no doubt that yesterday's announcement was long overdue; my 28-year-old son doesn't listen to R1 breakfast any more specifically because he's been allowed to talk too much (about nothing in particular) and play very little music. A lot of people, apparently, have complained about this self-indulgence.

If he were to do a Radio 2 programme dedicated to his favourite music then I'd be inclined to listen.

Yes, that's pretty much what Ben Cooper said. However, Moyles himself had said only a couple of weeks ago that he wanted to reach the 10-year mark on the breakfast show.

I would guess he would have a dedicated show to the 80's with his own jingles like Tony Blackburn has? I will miss his Golden Hour, but those old Radio 1 jingles will once for all be laid to rest and Radio 1 will be able to move on. I guess Radio 1 will offer his a show as he's still contracted until 2014? I think he's got a lot of fingers in pies at present with his TV. I think he knew a long time ago, as he wouldn't of taken on the role with Andrew Lloyd Webber. He will be sadly missed, but in all cases people move on. I can see Sara Cox moving over to Radio 2 soon, well she's already presenting cover work at the station? Radio 1 is moving forward like they did in the 80's and 90's

His radio contract is with the BBC rather than Radio 1 so it's effectively portable unless there are specific clauses. I bet it won't be worth the estimated £500,000 it is right now.

No, it isn't. It's for Radio 1 until January 2014.

If his contract is with Radio 1 then it is, by default, with the BBC - and the BBC can commute his contract to another operating unit if mutually agreed with the artist. The only issue is from whose budget the balance of his alleged £500k salary is charged.

Hold the front page. Radio 1 will not be using sung jingles in the new breakfast show.
