Just heard on the news that Jon Lord of Deep Purple has passed away.
Great keyboard player in the days before technology took over |

Really sad news for all fans of keyboard music like me
When I heard the news this evening I felt I just had to play 'Highway Star' at maximum volume with its fantastic keyboards solo of which Jon Lord was the master
One of the greatest musicians of the last fifty years who will be sadly missed _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

Very sad. I met him once and he was extremely pleasant. He was genuinely pleased when I told him I'd been playing Deep Purple In Rock the previous day.
Coincidentally Johnnie Walker played Smoke On The Water on SOT70s yesterday. |

I was disappointed when I heard this earlier. I first saw Lord performing with Deep Purple in 1972 and they were the most amazing band I'd seen up until that point, and subsequent shows never disappointed either. His keyboard was every bit as original as the man who tended to attract most of the music papers' attention - Keith Emerson - but without the theatrics.
Another one bites the dust, eh?
PS: Mark, why is it "very sad news"? Did you know him personally? |

I've just been watching a superb performance of Deep Purple on Vintage TV tonight and Jon Lord really stood out not for his exhibitionism or his star status but just for the fact he was one of the best keyboards players in the last fifty years
I've been playing keyboards for about forty years but his performance tonight made me feel very mediocre _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |

Yes, the first time I ever saw Deep Purple in the early 70s he was just stunning. |
