BBC Radio 2 presenters Huey Morgan, Paul Jones and Clare Teal have all played their part in the recording of a brand new package of jingles for the station.

The new sound will be unveiled on the Chris Evans Breakfast Show on Monday 16 July and will feature The London Community Gospel Choir and the BBC Concert Orchestra.

Almost 40 new jingles have been produced by Wise Buddah Jingles and Music Imaging, drawing on the talents of Fun Lovin’ Criminal Huey Morgan on guitar, blues legend Paul Jones on harmonica and vocals from jazz singer Clare Teal. UK soul queen Beverley Knight also lends her vocal talents to the new sounds.

It is the first time that presenters have been used in such a way and the first time in 14 years that jingles have been recorded on this scale, with over 100 musicians and singers contributing - including some of the UK’s leading session players such as Robbie McIntosh, Craig Blundell, John Parricelli, Ian Thomas and Jamie Talbot.

The Orchestral and Big Band sessions were recorded at the legendary Angel Studios in North London, under the supervision and baton of Musical Director Cliff Masterson, whose impressive credits in pop and classical music include Kylie Minogue, Leona Lewis and Il Divo. Cliff will be working again with the BBC Concert Orchestra when he conducts Kylie Minogue’s set at the Proms in The Park in September.

Bob Shennan, Controller Radio 2 and 6 Music, said: “This is our most collaborative approach to jingle-making at Radio 2 to date and it’s fantastic to have the opportunity to tap into the wealth of musical talent within our on-air line-up. I’m delighted that some of our presenters are part of the new sound of the station, alongside the amazingly versatile BBC Concert Orchestra, in a range of jingles that showcases the diversity of what Radio 2 has to offer.”

From the ones I've heard they are awful. All sound far too long.

I posted a reply earlier but thanks to bizhat being so utterly useless as a web host it disappeared down a big virtual hole....

Anyway, yes I agree with Helen. I think the word that best sums the package up is "drab" and so "Radio 2" these days, it would seem.

The whole package must have cost a fortune to make - wasted money, in my opinion.

Grooveworx has been providing most of the radio branding ids for BBC Radio 2 since 1997. Unfortunately, in January, 2011, GrooveWorx was notified that Radio 2 would be putting their imaging station sound package out for bid. We, along with other industry leading production companies, submited demos for the pitch. Upon hearing our demos, BBC Radio 2 contacted us and asked us to produce the package. This was quite a compliment and reinforced our belief that we create some of the best radio imaging on the planet. Unfortunately, we were unable to come to agreement on the publishing terms and therefore the next Radio 2 package will be produced by someone else instead. However, we granted our Heritage Melody logo that was created back in 1997, for use in the next Radio 2 package. We are very proud of the work we have produced for Radio 2 over the last fifteen years and wish that we could have continued to do so for fifteen more, but at least our Heritage Melody logo will remain on the air.

Just catch up to some opening shows on listen again to see how some of the other presenters open their shows with the new selection of jingles. A like the varied ID jingles from Richard Allinson's to Bob Harris compared to Aled Jones. Anneka Rice hasn't played one as she's got her own sung by a choir

The News jingle is also voiced by Carmen Squire when there pre-recorded shows.

So you made your original comment without having heard the whole show? What were you basing your comment that "she hadn't played one" on then? Rolling Eyes

The new jingles have a little twist with bells added for the Christmas effect. I thought they might have actually made some new Christmas jingles?
