Talking of which, Angela.......... I'm currently doing a big job in which I'm digitising a lot of older video recordings for the Yorkshire Film Archive, and today I've been looking at sequences of steam trains at Pickering en route to Grosmont.

(Sorry for hijacking the thread, but Angela will, I know, be interested!!!
Smile )

Yes I am Colin, thanks for mentioning it. I saw some old recordings from the YFA in a series on Tyne Tees a while ago, hopefully the ones you are doing might get shown at some point. I will keep watching the TV listings!

They won't necessarily be used in TV productions - the YFA has masses of stuff that is held for purely historical value. A lot of the stuff I'm currently transferring to digital is home movies taken on video in the 1980s of topics throughout Yorkshire - some of it is good, and some of it isn't! It all has historical value, though.

Good afternoon all, and thank you for the welcome.

Apologies for the delay in introducing myself, been a bit busy with a few other things... And listening to our favourite radio station of course. Very Happy

I'm from Sandbach in Cheshire, a house husband and full time father, so an avid daytime listener. I have an evil streak in that I take a certain pleasure from the Traffic Tottie's reports, especially if it's the M6 that is snarled up... Because it doesn't bother me, at home with no intentions of going out.

As has been rightly pointed out I'm a bit of a train nut, but NOT a train spotter. Much worse than that, I make (and play with) model railways while I'm listening to the wireless.

I'm also guilty of straying to other stations, though I do remain loyal to the Beeb, mainly R4 for their comedy.

Anyway, that's enough about me. Thanks again for the welcome and I have bookmarked the forum this time so I'll be able to find it again.

Happy listening
Bob

Bob, good to have some fresh input to our forum!!

Welcome. If you have time to check out the old threads you might note that many of us are not daytime listeners, and indeed have no intention of listening to some of the daytime presenters Razz but to be fair I'd say every R2 presenter has his/her fans on this forum.

A few of us hardly listen at all, oldies, who only have Desmiond Carrington, David Jacobs and FNIMN to cheer us. Confused

I'm also quite a railway enthusiast and used to have a huge model train set modelled on the one which used to be at Alton Towers in the days before it became an overhyped theme park

In my youth I also used to disappear for weeks on end travelling around Britain on the railways - I was only about 14 at the time - nowadays my parents would probably have had the Social Services on their case

It was a great education and it just shows how far this once great country has deteriorated in recent years Sad

Hi Bob, well, strangely enough, I too am a railway enthusiast or should I say railroad enthusiast as my heart beats a little faster when I see American steam in action... hence my nickname - Santa Fe fan.. the Santa Fe of course the best RR system ever.. Wink
I also have a heck of a collection of "O gauge" stock plus a sprinkling of "G scale" and a few 3 1/2" gauge specials!
What scale do you model in?
Nice to have you "all aboard" Razz

Good morning all.

John W - I must admit that I am always pleased when certain daytime regulars or on holiday and replaced by guest presenters but I am a big fan of Ken Bruce, not just his dry presentation but also the show's content overall. Steve (Love The Show) Wright I find a good excuse to retune over to R4 for a few hours though. Rolling Eyes

Evening listening is much more sporadic due to other family members wanting to watch the idiot lantern so I have to retreat to the garage and play trains if I want to listen.

Ruddlescat and Santafefan - I used to work for BR and frequently disappeared for days on end just riding round the network for fun on free passes and priv tickets. I tend to stop at home these days, having become a creature of comfort in middle age... And not finding most modern trains at all comfortable.

Modelling is primarily On30 (but I dabble in other scales too) and takes on a Latin American flavour. If you search on Youtube for "Ferrocarril Internacional" you'll find films of a modular layout built by myself and a few friends.

A good hobby for the radio enthusiast as modelling does not involve much moving about, so you can stay near thre set, and radio doesn't need watching, so you can keep your eye on the job (and not solder your fingertips to the rails).

My O/H would completely agree..........I prefer steam locomotives myself, especially a certain A4!
