Angharad Rees was an accomplished actress; after her high profile role in the television series Poldark, she worked mostly in the theatre.

She was an exceptionally beautiful woman

with a silky Welsh voice to match.

I remember her especially in an edition of Call My Bluff, giving the (true) definition to the word Chickle in such a way that it rendered the late Frank Muir almost speechless. Some achievement.

She was 68, not 62, when she died. She and Jon Lord, who died a week beforehand, and our friend marietta here in June all succumbed to pancreatic cancer, underlining what a vicious form of the disease it is.

Indeed it is. My wife watched her father go from being a reasonably healthy 74-year-old bloke to a weak shell, ultimately succumbing within 8 months thanks to pancreatic cancer. It was horrible.

I had a friend who sadly succumbed at the age of 39 - she seemed perfectly fine in March 1991 but passed away less than three months later Sad

When her father passed away (on August 9th 7 years ago) my wife's philosophy changed considerably; no longer is she bothered by all the pressures of our materialistic lifestyle - she now has a "sod it" attitude on the grounds that you just don't know what's around the corner. This philosophy was strengthened when her mum died last July. I think the term for such experiences is "cathartic".
