Can't believe I've beat Mark to report on this two-day old news.

But I'm posting in response to Obama's new conference today where he said he would do everything possible to protect the American public.

I like Obama but he's not being truthful here. I know for certain that he won't shut down all the shops that sell weapons like those used by the Aurora maniac. And I also know Obama won't shut down the on-line sources that allowed the maniac to purchase 6,000 rounds of ammunition.

Plus whatever he's used to boobytrap his flat, which police are going to have to make safe to enter.

Yes, while curbing their gun availability won't necessarily stop actions like this, it could at least make things harder. But the US Government won't do it.

I just hope the film and comics don't get all the blame.

I don't think you can blame the Batman movie for the massacre as there is relaxed gun laws in the US. There are so many nutters in the US who are involved in a war of their own. Loons like Holmes are not out to get shot themselves. Although some do take their own lives. Hopefully from this the police and psychologists can find out what was going on in his mixed up mind. My prays and thoughts are with the victims.

Apparently Colorado's gun laws are even more lax than in other states. I know we were amazed at the full broadsheet size page of ads the Texas Sunday papers for guns and ammunition. You could get all kinds with very little ID required.

Must admit I was a bit worried as my friend's 23 year old son moved to Denver 2 weeks ago, but thankfully he's not a Batman fan. Her 26 year old daughter and boyfriend in Texas is, and they apparently often go to midnight screenings.

The UK has the strictest gun laws in the world, but we have mass shootings here as well. There was Hungerford-Dunblane and Carlisle there is an argument for and against guns which is to complex for me.

Hungerford and Dunblane both happened before gun laws in this country were tightened. Thankfully spree killings like this are rare in the UK so to an extent our strict gun laws must be doing some good.

Dammit. Just when I was going to write "I blame the Batman movie for the massacre", too. Ah well. You can't win 'em all.

I've always been a Marvel comic fan, still am, but I'm sure I did read some Batman comics as a kid, and I remember the Adam West TV series. I'm sure in those early years the Joker never killed anybody.

I blame Jack Nicholson Confused
