It'll be a cold day in hell the day a politician has the right to tell me I'm morally wrong. I'll pay people how I want to pay people and Mr Gauke can shove his 'morals' where the sun dosen't shine.

Shall I state the blindingly obvious? There is no way that paying for anything or anybody in cash can be immmoral BUT if the recipient then does not include that payment in their income for tax purposes then that could be considered immoral in the same way as the well-publicised tax avoidance schemes are.

Mark, the whole story is a smoke-screen by government to avert our eyes from the massive tax fraud that is being conducted by big corporations. Don't allow yourself to be worried about the issue!

I'am not worried about this. There's a lot of tradesmen who do odd jobs for people. Are they going to be pushed out? God help the nanny state.

I guess the media will try and find the MP's who have been given tradesmen and women cash in hand to do some work.

I agree with Colin - you won't find many Government Ministers pushing this particular issue because it's politically far too risky when one considers that probably half the Cabinet is avoiding British tax by placing funds in offshore tax havens

This particular Junior Minister was very naive in raising the subject because he's walking into a political minefield Smile

And they, along with, I suspect, the vast majority of their filthy rich friends / donors have been doing it for a very long time! So, yes, it's very rich for this apology for a government to condemn lesser mortals as immoral for tax avoidence. That's the pot calling the kettle black isn't it? Or to put it another way 'Don't do as we do, do as we say'!

The media will probably be able to trace many transactions where they themselves have used pictures of Her Maj to grease a few palms and loosen a few tongues quite close to the Palace of Westminster. One wonders if this additional income was declared by the honourable gentlemen concerned?
