The Olympic committee said " lighting of the Olympic flame will be the wow factor" So who should light it? No not David Beckham.

William and Kate or the Queen and Prince Philip?

There's a cue for negative comments if ever there was one!

The final moments of the closing ceremony for me.

I don't care who lights it either.

I am hoping to watch some but not all of the tennis, diving, rowing, swimming and cycling but I usually find that a different sport starts to get me interested. I always remember the Winter Games of a few years ago when curling grabbed my attention, and that of many others! Who'd have thought it could be so exciting?

However I shall be on holiday in Norfolk for a week in the middle of it so may have other things to occupy me Smile.

Funnily enough, I'm driving over to Norfolk on the day it starts, and I'm doing exactly the same thing on the day it finishes!

I hope you have a fantastic experience, essexlady, and that you witness a win for the British team!

Unfortunately we weren't lucky in our ticket application.

OK, I take it back about Daley Thompson being the most likely candidate for lighting the Olympic Flame. I reckon it'll be Chris Hoy. Just a hunch!!!

Sir Chris Hoy has been confirmed as the British flag bearer at the opening at the Olympic Games on Friday....wouldn't have thought he'd do both.

I was just about to delete the above post, Becky, when you prevented me from doing so!! Yes - I misheard the report on the radio. So, my money's still on Daley Thompson for the flame-lighting.

Whoever it will be has probably already been asked, and, since Thompson has been very vocal on the subject, I doubt that it was going to be him.
And just to make absolutely certain that it won't be him, he's cracked a joke

The Queen may not be able to walk the steps. So many Olympians could pass the flame up a line then her she would light it?

Would anyone like the Olympics pull out from the new Radio Times? My o/h has just paid £2.00 for next week's issue, it is up 60p and full of stuff about the games, every time he looks at the cover he moans a bucketful. (Because of the price increase) I should add that I did suggest not buying it, but he wanted the listings for Radio 4. I knew this would happen! Laughing

There's a full set of very good apps for smartphone and tablet users. The BBC's look to be very good indeed.

Seconded! There must have been a lot of Humour Bypass operations undertaken by the NHS in recent years! Smile

I suppose they have to fund all their messiah's (that's Chris Evans to us plebs) extra hours somehow. That's probably one way they hope to achieve it!

Yes, although I'm very much looking forward to the Olympics (our neighbour takes part in the opening ceremony tonight - she plays Bangra drums and dances) I'm already getting fed up with the sight and sound of Chris Evans on TV and radio and, as I type these words, it hasn't really started yet!

Know one can get away from it - as the BBC are the main channel who have the rights to show the Olympics. So why not have an Olympic Breakfast right across the channels from Radio and TV. People will be able to hear it on the move with Radio 2 one of the highest listeners in the UK to take the coverage. I wish people would stop moaning. It's here now, enjoy it - or shut it off for two weeks.

Aren't Welsh teams Cardiff and Swansea etc in the English football league? If so, doesn't that make their players English by default? Seems reasonable to me.

Similarly certain English Leage teams like Chester Shrewsbury and Hereford used to be eligible to compete in the Welsh Cup - but there again having worked in Wales for most of my life I have always seen England and Wales as a natural geographical unit with identical legal and education systems - of course Scotland and Northern Ireland have their own different systems in these areas so to me it's really no big deal Smile

The Opening Ceremony was fantastic. Danny Boyle was capturing everything British. "From the Red Arrows, Beckham bringing the torch up the Thames in the speed boat, Bond, decades of music, Rowan Atkinson as Bean, Industrial Revolution, and the NHS.

Rupert Murdoch has said that he found the London 2012 Olympic opening ceremony "a little too politically correct".

However, he was quick to praise creative director Danny Boyle for making the event overall "surprisingly great".

The 81-year-old media mogul tweeted to his followers: "London Olympic opening surprisingly great, even if a little too politically correct. Danny Boyle a creative genius."

Conservative MP Aidan Burley also caused discussion on Twitter after dismissing the £27m showcase as "the most leftie opening ceremony I have ever seen – more than Beijing, the capital of a communist state! Welfare tribute next?"

He went on to describe the ceremony as "multi-cultural crap".

The event pulled in a huge audience on BBC One last night, averaging 23.02m between 9pm and 12.50am, setting a record for a post-midnight audience.

Well I certainly didn't watch it

Why would I want to when there is currently an absolutely superb darts tournament going on in Blackpool - real sport with real professionals and much better than anything the Olympics can offer Smile
