Yes, Euro 2012 has finished and now it's the Europa Cup.

http://www.uefa.com/uefaeuropaleague/season=2013/draws/index.html

And our family has a special interest this year. I'm proud to say, my son-in-law is playing Surprised Danny Thomas.

After a low-paid season with lowly Tamworth he opted for playing a summer season. His agent said how about FH Hafnarfjördur (Iceland). Well they did win their league last season and that qualifies them for the UefaEuropa qualifying rounds. Two rounds in July, opposition are from Leichtenstein and Sweden.

And yes, we are excited!

On Thursday in the first leg against Eschen, Danny's team (FH) won 2-1. Away leg is next week, they fly to Leichtenstein and staying 3 nights! (I think they are taking this campaign seriously!!)

If they win or draw that game then the next round opposition are in Sweden......

This evening FH got the away goal and in fact won 1-0, so 3-1 agg. Uefa site notes that son-in-law Danny started, don't know if subbed.

So next round sees them flying out to Sweden for game against AIK, next Thursday!

1-1 good result, keeps them ahead for second leg next week.

Danny did OK but couldn't jump for the cross that got AIK goal, then got booked for time-wasting Smile

There's a repeat showing at 11.30pm but only on HD channel (which we have so I'll record it for Danny).

Ach! Danny's FH lost 2nd leg 0-1, so they're out of the Europa. Oh well, concentrate on the league now, they're currently 2nd with a game in hand...

lp,

Danny's team Fimleikafelag-Hafnarfjordur, FH for short Smile are doing very well in the Icelandic league, won 1-0 last night and are now top with 5 points lead, and that is after getting beat last Thursday by their main rivals KR (who lost two games earlier in August)

FH recent results are here:

http://www.soccerway.com/teams/iceland/fimleikafelag-hafnarfjordur/

And the league (Úrvalsdeild) table is

http://www.soccerway.com/national/iceland/urvalsdeild/2012/regular-season/tables/

If they win the league then they qualify for the qualifying round of the Champions League

Hello John,
Have you got an android smartphone (maybe Iphone too)?
There's a great app called Soccer Scores - FotMob, which has live scores, lineups, whose been sent off or booked, subbed and tables for every league under the sun.
I did have the Icelandic league (PEPSI deildin) league deselected but I've selected it now to see how your son in laws team are doing.
10 points clear now eh, looks like they're in line for the title.

Yes, a draw last night was enough to secure the league championship - they'll be in the first round of Champions League next summer!

The club gaffers have said that his contributions and regular team appearances had contributed to their success this season, so expecting to be offered a contract for a year.

That's a difficult choice really. The wages are not great, like English League 2. Signing a contract means about 8 months mainly in Iceland, though he gets paid during the other 4 months. Our daughter and grand-daughter would stay in England as she has a job here wants to keep.

Being over 30 the chances of getting an English league team are non-existent.
