Very sad news. I remember him playing all those roles. He was fantastic in Heartbeat. RIP.

He was fabulous at everything he did. I knew he'd been very ill for a long time but it's still a shock to learn of his passing.

I can't see his name without thinking of him as Twiggy in The Royle Family - and the "wallpaper-stripping dance" with Jim Royle. Very, very funny.

I thought he was superb both in Heartbeat and Keeping Up Appearances

A very talented and much loved actor who's been taken away from us far too soon Sad

I remember meeting Geoffrey many years ago at the Great British Beer Festival at Leeds. He came into the press office to have his drinks as he did not want to cause any disruption in the main hall (it was at his height in Coronation Street) not for any pretensions on his part.

Always enjoyed watching him as the lovable rogue, Eddie Yeats, in Coronation Street

He was the voice of Paul in the Beatles' cartoon film Yellow Submarine.

Funnily enough I told my Beatles-mad Grandson that only this morning and then I read Becky's post confirming it.

Sad news. He will always be Onslow to me in his grubby vest, bashing the TV to turn on the racing and a can of beer in his fist - but in wife Daisy's eyes the most irresistible man in the world.

Yes, I thought he was brilliant as Twiggy in The Royle Family (but then every one was good in that). He was also good in the appalling Heartbeat.
Never watched Corrie in my life but seem to remember he was a scouse rogue in that as well.
I wonder if he minded being typecast?

He was a "loveable rogue" - he played Eddie Yeats and worked on the bins along with Stan Ogden, husband of the wonderful Hilda Ogden - one of UK soap's best ever characters. Being their lodger gave an opportunity gave rise to some wonderful and funny interplay between the three of of them.

In those days, Coronation Street was still wonderfully written and performed.
