They'd probably be far better off concentrating on giving us a better postal service - like in the days when 90% of first class letters actually did arrive the next working day

As for painting postboxes gold - why do it just for these four people and not for all the other competitors who have won gold medals over the last seventy years or so Rolling Eyes

Then Shameron & his multi-millionaire cronies need to be stopped in their efforts to privatise it. I don't believe there is any public appetite for it, there certainly wasn't when shameron's shower first tried for it in the 1990s and there still wasn't when Blair did the same later, something I still can't believe now!

And Greg Rutherford has taken the long jump gold, but I say a big well done to all our medal winners!

Well done to Andy Murray. Also Race of Mo Farah life on Saturday too. These medals are giving a boost for Britain. It will give a platform for Rio 2016.

Usain Bolt, quite wonderful, as usual he looked to be in 7th place for 30 meters, then the inevitable acceleration to 1st, in under 10 seconds.

Roger looked rather out of sorts but a lot of that was down to how well Andy played.

I love this clip of Denise Lewis & Colin Jackson watching Mo Farah win. Laughing

Ha Ha Colin.

Actually, I believe there is some interest from Rio to buy (dis-assemble and re-assemble) some of the Olympic Park, e.g the Velodrome, though with so much success GB has in cycling they may want to keep it.

And from what I've heard, it's ironic, those sports that GB do well in medals (cycling, rowing, sailing, track)) apparently will get money/investment boosts from the government, providing premises, physios, training etc. While those sports that GB DOESN'T do well in won't get the same support

Surely that's the wrong way round? If we don't do well in some sports then they are the ones that NEED support? Rolling Eyes

We can't rely on joined-up thinking from Clown Cameron and his thick cronies. It does strike me as crazy that, having had the impetus to develop these fantastic and much-needed facilities, they then consider flogging off some of the more notable ones (such as the velodrome - a friend of mine has been working on a broadcast links job there and he says it's an absolutely wonderful facility) to the next host. Blimey - Brazil is just about the fastest developing economy in the world so let them build their own!

This is yet another example of short-term thinking. My brother works for Sport England and he says you wouldn't believe the number of clueless people there are who happen to have their hands on the sport purse-strings!

Yours faithfully
Mr Angry of Tunbridge Wells

We had a brilliant time at the show-jumping finals yesterday despite GB not winning a medal. The whole thing was very well organised and all the personnel, armed forces, shop and booth staff and volunteers were cheerful, pleasant and helpful. Plus all the spectators and indeed all the people we met en-route to Greenwich on the trains and the DLR were chatty and good humoured whatever their nationality. And the venue was spectacular (the show jumping was pretty good too).

Interestingly, a lot of "non sports-fans" (like me, really) are attending the events just for the buzz and getting all swept up in it. Do you think they'll let us keep the Olympics going for longer - it will be over all too soon! My friend, who commutes into London each day, said that people were actually talking on the tube! Smile

On the tube from Bank to Stratford there was a group of French, Spanish and British passengers talking about the Olympics and the events they had been watching - it fair warmed the cockles.

It's something Politicians are not aware of, called "National pride"... unfortunately we lost most of it in the 70s... Confused

The whole thing has been rather good, right from the opening ceremony, which was off the scale brilliant, through to our lot doing really quite well at a whole heap of hard things. We’ve watched most of it on the telly but we have been to Weymouth to soak up the atmosphere there. The media seem surprised by the mood of country- we’re all so happy. The media though, are usually immersed in so much bad news, doom, gloom and depressing stuff that they don’t see all the good news all around us every day. If the media learn anything from these last two weeks, it is this: good news sells too. The more good news the better as far as I’m concerned.
On a slightly different subject, is anyone else fed up the Governor of the Bank of England saying things like – we’re in choppy waters – storm clouds are on the horizon- we need to keep an even keel. It’s a bank not a ship!!! And how does he keep his job when everything he’s said for the past three years has been wrong? Everything.

I agree with both points here. I hope the feelgood factor remains, but somehow doubt it. The Governor of the Bank Of Toyland should have been sacked ages ago. His marine analogies when giving his latest doom and gloom are very irksome. Meanwhile, we have the sun and a few days of this wonderful Olympiad left....can we make it to 30 golds..? It won't be plain sailing...waters may be choppy...but we'll sail on regardless....

Exactly. What it tells me is that the Bank of England, eminent financial experts and those in Government all have one thing in common........

...... none of them have a bloody clue what they're talking about nor what to do about the ridiculous situation they've all got the rest of us into.

The term, I beleive, is SNAAFU.

A bit late with this comment as I didn't have internet access while I was away but I thought Andy Murray was magic and I loved the way he and Laura partnered each other in the mixed doubles. Well done to both of them Very Happy.

For me, the "Big One" takes place tonight at 8.25pm when family-member Tom Daley takes part in the 10m diving final that could - if his standard is nothing short of perfect - result in a medal. Let's hope the medal is of the Golden variety!!!
