So was World War Two!

Anyway, it's not a once in a generation. It is on the telly every four years. As far as I am concerned if I want to watch the synchronised tiddleywinks I will. Whether it's being held in London, England or London, Kentucky makes not a blind bit of difference to me. I won't be anywhere near either place

Looking at the schedule for next Monday it looks like Jo Whiley's show has gone completely over the Olympic period and the specialist shows which would be on after 10pm will be on earlier in the evening - works perfectly for me: I can listen to them live rather than on iPlayer the next morning!

I'm no fan of sport at all, but I would have no problem with Evans doing his show from the Olympic Park if they kept it to the weekdays. If I wanted 'sport' I'd tune to 5 Live but in terms of bringing the 'Olympic atmosphere' to Radio 2 I have no problem with that. I'm sure there will still be plenty of stuff that has nothing to do with the Olympics on R2.

At last they're not moving specialist shows (on the Saturday he's on 10am to 1pm - Graham Norton's away for the Summer anyway, and on the Sunday he's on from 11am to 1pm, Richard Madeley's only really there temporarily as Michael Ball has other commitments). If they must have a live Olympics show over the weekend, why can't Jon Holmes and Richard Madeley do their normal shows from there?

"What is the point of Evans at the Olympic Park. It's the same show sent to the park - with a few added interviews from the sports guy"

Evans, Ball, Bacon, Kielty, Winklemann Rolling Eyes

Good job there's Olympics to watch on the TV instead

The incessant "cackle" we get from these idiots is unbearable, isn't it? Normally I have Radio 2 on in my office but this last week it's been unbearable so although I do venture to listen now and then I find myself switching off almost immediately. Thankfully, the web is full of radio streams that are much better.

Has there ever been such a bad R2 weekday line up?

Hours listened this week approx 1.25, and that was only for Popmaster, which also had the life sucked out of it.

Dire...

Thank goodness it's not just been me who has thought R2 is the worst that it's ever been.

I may have clocked up a couple more hours here and there but that's being generous!

For the first time today I tuned in at 5.00pm to hear the news as I got into my car. Simon Mayo then came on - and played Led Zeppelin's "Black Dog" (from the wonderful Led Zeppelin IV)!

Perhaps there is a god after all!!! (Mind you, as soon as the cackle started I switched off again).

Haven't listened to R2 all this week but then I only listen to KB and a bit of JV

Much better stuff on catch up or the internet

The only show I have listened to this week is JV and even he irritated me by constantly banging on about the Olympics

Thank goodness for Martyn Lewis and Terry Walton today for rescuing us from more of the same Smile

Vine's show is now so tabloid (and very often utterly pointless) that it drives me nuts.

Couldn't agree more Colin. Vine seems incapable of controlling interviews and we just end up with two people shouting at each other at the same time.

Does anyone know why the hell Chris Evans is shrieking at me on a Saturday morning? The transition from the smooth professionalism of Brian Matthew to Evans is horrendous.

Still, I suppose Evans and Saturday have something in common

I've hardly listened this week either and I did switch on after 1, but didn't hang around for long as the Martin Lewis bit got silly at the beginning with those stupid phone calls.

JV seems to have gone all hyper these days, I noticed the same after he got hooked on Twitter last year.

Totally agree, essentially the show consists of four topics each given approx half hour, each half hour is given over to three records, two experts of opposing view given ten minutes, which leaves 5 minutes for carefully selected callers and texters (ensuring they sit within the BBC's PC stance), these callers and texters are often the same individuals commenting on differing topics.

The show's a complete waste of time and only duplicating what has probably already been done to death on R5L earlier in the day, it worked in JY's day as that was pre R5L, there is no longer a need for this type of show on R2.

It's great broadcasts this week both from Chris and Simon. Chris live from the Olympic Park and Simon in various locations.

As Brian handed over to News he said the fateful words: "And after the news at 10.00 o'clock it's Chris Evans................" to which I remarked "For god's sake - not AGAIN!".

Still, it was time to swap over to Radio Caroline as normal. Relief. Good presentation (no mention of the Olympics whatever) and some seriously good music.

Both avoidable and avoided, for my part. Less so for Mayo than the egotist Evans, of course, but still avoidable all the same. I like the sport but I hate the cackle.

OK, so call me thicker than a builders yard full of short planks but can someone explain why hosting the Olympics means we have to have Evans on Saturday an Sunday? Even if I liked the guy (and I grew out of his style of broadcasting when I was fourteen) I would still think this was overkill. Does he need the money or what?

It's not as if you didn't know. So why make a silly remark.

It's more than overkill, much more like torture! It should be illegal under international law, like water boarding etc!

I doubt that very much!

My thoughts exactly. It's beyond a joke now.

What do you mean "it's not as if I didn't know?" I didn't know he was going to be on, Mark! I don't pore over the radio schedules every minute of the day, scour the online press releases or listen to all of the annoying on-air promotions like you do.

When I heard Brian Matthew inform us that prat Evans was on after the news I was genuinely not amused. Thank god there was a much better radio listening alternative.

So don't make such silly comments, please.

One of the joys of Twitter is that I can choose whose feed to subscribe to!
