"Sandie Shaw said Jackie Trent pushed her into a swimming pool. Jackie said Sandie should have drowned"

Hear about this and more in this edition of The Reunion from Radio 4

Sue MacGregor reunites five women whose pop success helped make the sixties swing.

When people think about the music of the sixties, generally they think of The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, but the girl singers of the period were also highly successful and important. In the UK alone, Cilla Black had seventeen top forty hits, Dusty Springfield and Sandie Shaw had fifteen and Petula Clark had thirteen. This doesn't include the success they all enjoyed abroad: these girls were international stars having hits all over Europe and in the United States......

Thanks for the reminder Becky. I saw a note in the paper and thought it could be interesting.

If anyone is interested Smooth Radio are doing a 60's show over Bank Holiday weekend presented by Russell Grant

From what I know it sounds quite good but I'm not sure of the exact time it's on - but you can check on the Smooth.co.uk website

Smooth 70's is also doing the top 70 tracks from the Seventies as voted for by listeners

Quite a variety of music there I suspect ranging from Tamla Motown and Soul to Glam Rock and of course the Bay City Rollers Mad not to mention late 70's Disco and Punk and Heavy Metal

I reckon that's worth a listen also Smile

Why do they assume that just because it's a Bank Holiday we want yet another chart of 100 bestsellers of whatever decade? Evil or Very Mad The tracks are nearly always the same ones we moan about as already being over played...............

It's an easy way to fill a day with content for these radio "brands". Playlists are compiled during the year and held on the system only to be recalled when required and have the links dropped in as appropriate. I have plenty of those in my iTunes collection!

Oh well - it was just a thought but I still think the sixties show should be worth listening to

And for anyone who does want to listen to the Top 70 Seventies tracks it starts at 12 noon on Bank Holiday Monday and goes through to Five O'Clock I believe Smile

Well, I will probably listen to the Smooth 60s show.

I might also listen to the 70s one but know damn well it will be the usual overplayed drivel from Saturday Night Fever and Grease. Not to mention bloody Dancing Queen of course.

I used to go to a Goth club and to get rid of us at kicking out time they would play dancing queen and so it became an anthem to us all instead Very Happy

That's my main criticism of mid/late 70s TOTPs. While it may indicate what singles occupied the Top 20 it is entirely unrepresentative of what I would call the "real music" that was being made and listened to at the time, largely because the bulk of music-lovers were buying albums and seeing bands who could actually play live!

The most relevant show of the time was The Old Grey Whistle Test - and punk was well represented on that show.
