I can just visualise the late Mr Armstrong standing at the Gates of Heaven and on passing through uttering those much quoted words 'One small step' etc

At which point God tells the Angels heavy mob to throw him out - and tells him that as he's still fluffing his lines he's being reincarnated and going straight back to earth to learn how to get the thing right Smile

We were in the pub and there was a TV screen showing BBC News Channel without any sound. I read the "Breaking News" strap and I thought "I bet when I get home Mark will have rushed to post the news". I was right!!! Smile

I remember being in Ostend, Belgium, and joining a crowd of people all looking at TV sets in a shop window on which the live transmission from the moon were being shown. Such a long time ago now.......

Today, the words "One small step.." would have come via a Tweet!

Colin- you cannot be serious to quote a famous phrase

Are you seriously suggesting that people would be able to send Tweets from the surface of the Moon?

Hell's teeth - next we'll be hearing that there's a branch of Macdonalds there Laughing

I wouldn't be surprised if MacDonalds have already put a branch on the moon.
There's certainly a Tescos there.
What I CAN guarantee is that the next man on the moon will be confronted by gigantic pictures and posters of Chris Evans, and a huge sound system with his voice blaring out across the universe.

There's no escape.

Thanks for the photo Mark! Sad he has now gone although I suppose 82 was a "good" age as they say. It seems he was such a quiet unassuming man who shunned the limelight and just got on and did his job to the best of his exceptional ability.

You bet! After all, the current NASA Mars Rover used Twitter to announce that it had landed. Fab eh?

That's even more likely! (In fact, word has it that the Mars Rover is actually in the process of building a Drive-Thru right now).

I was a kid on a caravan holiday in July 1969, and we listened to the moon landing on our trusty transistor radio Smile

And Neil Armstrong is on my small list of 'Famous People I Have Seen'. Sometime in the mid 1970s, while I was at Edinburgh Uni, Neil Armstrong delivered a speech at the University, I expect it was about his moon experiences, can't remember now Confused

We had the next best thing down in Plymouth at around the same time - an illustrated talk at the Polytechnic Students' Union by Patrick Moore in which he described his experiences of broadcasting live from BBC television centre on the night of the landings. I remember some of it - and we hadn't even been to the bar beforehand!
