I believe he had been suffering from Alzheimers and one of his few remaining pleasures was receiving postcards from well-wishers.

I used to like a lot of his records: "Out of Town" was a favourite of mine and I used to sing "I'm a Pink Toothbrush" to my little sons at teeth-cleaning time.

Yes he was. Horrid illness. I can remember him presenting Family Fortunes and Catchphrase too.

It's good but it's not right! Roy Walker presented Catchphrase.

Mark, your one-liner is a direct lift from the BBC's news page. Can't you put some effort into it?

Sad news.

They've just played Tulips From Amsterdam on Liza Tarbuck's show (Adil Ray??? sitting in) and Out Of Town was mentioned. Liked them both and the toothbrush one Eileen!

He sold millions of LPs in the 70s apparently.

Didn't he have a spell presenting an afternoon show on Radio 2? maybe after Stewpot left.. or was it before him. Whenever it was, it wasn't very good as I recall.
I used to like him in the early days. "I'm a Pink Toothbrush" was a favourite as well as "Swim Little Fishy" ( over the Dam... was that him? Confused ) but I went off him quickly after his live "on air" attack on Eric Morcambe.. they cut the transmission. Anybody remember that?

May be mentioned elsewhere, but Desmond Carrington paid tribute last night, with an interview with Max from six years ago (Max sounding very much on-the-ball and in good health).
