Never heard him called that before. Always known as 'Boggy' Marsh whenever I've heard him. Is he still on with Sir Terry?

He never has been called that Lord Elpuss, I was just clutching at straws there.
I'm not sure if he's still with Terry, I haven't heard his show for a while.

I think he must have retired completely now, as I'd say it's been about a year since he was on Terry's Sunday show. Probably about the same time as they moved back into the studio rather than have the shows come from the radio theatre.

Yes, Boggy is no longer on air. Again I think he "retired" some time ago but came back to join Wogan as a freelance.

Strangely yesterday I did think that they wouldn't do it on Television news, but of course it doesn't seem to matter on Radio does it? Evil or Very Mad

As said in the article the news readers are part of the feel of the station and of course the programme presenters do the rest along with the music.

Very sad to see Fenella and Fran. It seem first in - first out with Moria Stuart still keeping her job. Fenella Fudge ( Haddingham ) has been working for the station for 16 years and Fran about 12 years. So no more food names will be presenting. Charles Nove and Ricky Salmon will be off too. It looks like Alan Dedicot will be on during the day according to the article. Really cut back on freelancers, does this mean cover DJ's too? More work for the others?

I suspect that's because Moira Stewart was brought back by Evans and is part of the Evans' 'team', and probably is only heard whilst his show is on air.

I don't think any of the DJs/presenters are BBC staff Mark so there aren't any others to give the work to.

Fran has been at R2 for 22 years, not 12.

Almost everybody on the presentation side is on freelance contract, as are an increasing number of production staff and even engineering/technical support staff too. It's a sad old situation at the Beeb and reflects the general decline in standards right across the board within the corporation. There was a time when staffers were really proud to have a career with the corporation but sadly most people now have to put up with a general sense of frustration. So many good people on both sides of the microphone/camera have said "sod it" and are doing other things, and I can't say I blame them one bit.

Long gone are the days when Radio 2 had staff announcers. As Presentation Editor I'm assuming Alan Dedicoat is staff and he'll be reading daytime bulletins. Most (possibly all) of the station's newsreaders as well as many on Radio 4 are freelance and do other voiceover work. Ricky Salmon and Charles Nove run their own companies and a load of them are signed up with Auntie's Voices:
http://auntiesvoices.com/

Tom Sanders will still be on the station reading the news on both R2 and 6 Music.

Colin Berry bowed out with the 3.00 am bulletin on Saturday morning.
I go back 40+ years to the days of Colin , Paul Hollingdale & John Dunn on Breakfast Special and the with the great Ray Moore on The Early show.
All great characters which made R2 so good years ago but now a long gone era.

If you read this Colin have one on me in The George with the spirit of Ray pulling the pints !

Alan bowed out of the Early Breakfast News too this morning. He's moving to another part of the day. Vanessa had a few tears. I wonder if Tina Richie will continue to read the news?

I go back almost 30 years and they made the station, but as you say the era has gone. John Dunn in the late afternoon and the JY show were the show's I first listened to, dipping in and out of R1 and 2 at the time.

I'll try and listen again to Colin's last bulletin. It's such a shame.

The BBC is being destroyed by self-serving accountants and stupid professional business managers who are (a) running scared of politicians and (b) have no passion whatever for radio and television programming.

One day, in the not-too-distant future, we'll be reminiscing about the BBC that we once valued and asking "What happened to it?".

You're spot on there Colin.

Obviously newsreaders come and go and do eventually retire, but I think it's the fact that most of the names you know are all going together which makes it hard.

Sounded like they had a trainee in reading the 7pm news tonight........... I suppose it will be like this all the time from now onwards. She didn't have a radio voice at all.

If it was the same newsreader as the 6pm bulletin then that's Clare Runacres who'd been on 6 Music for some time now. This will remain the pattern from now on: 6 Music and other journalists reading in the evenings and at weekends with better known 'names' reading during the day on both R2 & 6 Music (Deadly, Tom, Tina).

Fran Godfrey's last shift was last Friday but I don't think anything was said at the end.

Is Dedley going as well?

Not sure, assumed he was still Head of Presentation. I see the idea of doing away with freelance newsreaders didn't last long! We've had both Charles Nove and Ricky Salmon back on air this week.

That's what I thought too.

Nice picture of Fran Godfrey with Jeremy Vine on Twitter. Her last official day at R2 today, but I don't think she did any bulletins. She said her last shift was last Friday. I'll miss her voice, she has such perfect diction IMHO.
