Andy Williams has died aged 84

I think his TV show was the first I ever saw in colour back in the 60s.

I loved many of his songs, including this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=McnWTXmfsFY and of course Moon River

RIP Andy

Sad news. I always enjoyed his TV programmes and he had such a lovely voice. Those high notes never sounded strained - you just knew he would always hit them.

I seem to remember he began singing in a group with his brothers and when he had his own show he gave the Osmonds one of their early TV outings. Have I got that right??

Yes, FE you are quite right - Simon Mayo has just been talking to Paul Gambuccini about him. What a sad loss - as you say he had such an easy flowing voice.

Me too. He used to end on the first couple of lines of "Moon River" and they look at the camera and say "Goodnight all..." and the camera would then crane up as the credits rolled. Marvellous production - even if the colour was awful! Mind you, I didn't get to see it in colour until we bought a colour set in 1972.

This is very sad news indeed. Andy was one of my all time favourites with a wonderful voice. I remember seeing him in concert in Brighton back in the seventies and it was fantastic.

R.I.P Andy. Guess we'll have to get used to losing you

Helen, Can't Help Falling...is a wonderful song. Much better than Elvis' version.
I remember watching TOTP in April 1970 and they announced Andy Williams. 'Boring' I thought (I preferred Jethro Tull or King Crimson in those days) but on came that song and it was wonderful.

My favourite was Home Lovin' Man, wonderfully evocative. I have to say I preferred Danny Williams' version of Moon River.

RIP.

Eileen: correct. On the News at 6 they showed Andy singing with the very young Osmonds in a show from 1964.

Glad I'm not the only one to think Andy's Can't Help Falling is better than Elvis'! Whenever I hear it I'm transported back to that spring of 1970.

If I remember correctly Home Lovin Man is a favourite of Mr Wogan.

Terry has good tastes then. I've just played Home Lovin' Man three times on Youtube, it's such a great song.

I also agree about the Andy v Elvis thing

In his prime he was really an institution in many British homes - rather like Morecambe and Wise and really I can pay him no greater compliment than by saying that

I was sad to hear tonight that his dad constantly instilled in him the suggestion that he wasn't as good as his brothers - but I reckon he certainly proved his dad wrong

RIP Andy Sad
