Quote: | BBC Radio 2 is getting ready to lend its support to this year’s BBC Children in Need Appeal with a whole host of exciting events and shows. Last year the station raised a staggering £2,032,642 and since 1983 Radio 2 has raised over £30million for the charity.
Today, Steve Wright announced a night of live comedy and music with some of the biggest comedy acts around.
The event, Stand Up For Pudsey, will be held on Monday 22 October at the Prince Edward Theatre in London. Comedians Jo Brand, Rhod Gilbert, Al Murray, Chris Ramsey, Lucy Porter, Henning Wehn and Radio 2’s very own Jon Holmes will be on hand to provide the entertainment for the audience. They will be joined by an exciting line-up of music performers including Scouting For Girls, Michael Kiwanuka, Civil Wars and the cast of Jersey Boys will perform a medley from the hit West End show.
In addition to this the comedians, including Ed Byrne and Greg Davies, will pair up and step in to the Radio 2 studios in the week of October 15 to look after proceedings while Steve Wright is on holiday.
On Sunday 28 October, Sir Terry Wogan will once again be hosting a special Weekend Wogan show live from the Savoy Theatre in London. The show will feature a mixture of live guests and live music from some of the biggest names around.
The following day (Monday 29 October) Ken Bruce will be launching a special BBC Children in Need version of his famous daily quiz, PopMaster. The quiz will see listeners flex their pop music muscles and go head-to-head to prove their pop music prowess. The competition will then culminate in a final Popmaster battle at the end of the week.
Breakfast show presenter Chris Evans will also be lending his support, by hosting a series of very special BBC Children in Need auctions across the week of the Appeal. A number of exclusive events - including the now famous Magnificent Seven supercar rally and places at the extremely popular Dine & Disco extravaganza - will go under the hammer in the hope that the highest bidders dig deep. Last November, listeners to the Breakfast Show raised a staggering £1.5 million, and this year Chris is hoping to collect even more cash for the children.
And between 7am and 7pm on the day of the BBC Children in Need Appeal (Friday 16 November) Radio 2 will be dusting off its BBC Children in Need Jukebox and playing 12 hours of music that has been requested by the station’s listeners. As well as some great music a whole host of famous faces will be dropping by the studios to lend their support to the cause.
Bob Shennan, Controller Radio 2 and 6 Music, says: “BBC Children In Need is a vital part of Radio 2 and we are delighted once again to be playing our part in such a worthwhile cause. Our audience is always so generous and I hope the shows and events we have planned this year encourage them to get involved and show their support.”
Details about how to buy tickets for all the events are on the Radio 2 website. |

What a load of c--p that is - would have been a complete load of c--p if Ricky Gervaise had been involved - can I join you Helen - not literally but just by doing the same thing? _________________ Are you ready for a Ruddles? |
