Very sad news and only weeks after AlanT taking over.

Perhaps he was ill and LD knew this.
Even so he had a wealth of musical knowledge and will be sadly missed

Very sad news indeed. He was much younger, 65, than I thought.

Undoubtedly this would account for his low key exit from the network last December.

Maybe this is a small lesson to those who tend to rant about the controllers actions. Sometimes there are personal reasons why people choose to retire or go missing from the network that should be respected.

Evening Ernie.
Yes very sad story.65 is not an age by any means.
I do suspect as you say that LD was aware of his health and had to make a quick decision.
Not the kind of meeting any employer and employee would want to have.
Very likeable bloke who knew his stuff.

65 is much too young to pass away , although John W did mention previously that he had been ill for quite a few years with a chronic condition.

What a shock to hear such sad news. It does explain things though.

Bit of a shock. I knew he had a long-term illness but not aware it was life-threatening now. That may explain why his show ended without any proper goodbyes. Good obituary in the Times online.

Just read in the paper that he was not ill and died in his sleep. Still very sad.

Hi ian, I was just thinking too about how many hours of enjoyment Sheridan brought to me on Radio 2.

Yes Helen I read that too. Not sure now whether it was connected or not to his leaving in December.Still his leaving was a bit abrupt without the same sendoff that Richard Baker got.

I don't suppose it matters greatly now but it was unusual for Radio 2 not to have its presenters inform the audience of their departure

That's the strangest thing of all Ernie.

Very sad news indeed. Sheridan was a professional broadcaster to his fingertips, which is probably why he was elbowed. An expert who knew his stuff and communicated it brilliantly and I learnt a lot from him.

I understood his death was unexpected and I remember Douglas saying at the time that she looked forward to working with Sheridan on other projects so I assume that this is a coincidence.

My condolences to his family

I enjoyed his biographies, expecially James Mason: Odd Man Out. He'll be much missed.

My condolences are with his family too. Although I rarely listened to his show, the music and the memories that the songs produced obviously meant a great deal to a lot of people, and therefore he will be missed.
