If anyone remember the Ross and Brand scandal with editorial problems. Ross was suspended, Brand quit and Lesley Douglas left her post as BBC Radio 2 controller. I wonder if any heads will roll?

I think in all probability they will at the highest level

There is talk of bringing Newsnight to an end but I really hope that does not happen as I think it would be a great loss despite the recent problems Sad

There is certainly need of a serious news programme on BBC2, which should compliment and supplement the main bulletin on BBC1.
For some time I have doubted that Newsnight has fulfilled that task properly. Perhaps the time is nigh to have a clearout - including the panto ugly sisters Paxman and Wark

The DG has fallen on his sword.

Lasted two months (was a sh*t appointment anyway). Wonder what his payoff will be...

It looks like the BBC are about to appoint a new Director General: http://news.uk.msn.com/bbc-chief-george-entwistle-resigns-2

I think there needs to be a Editor solely incharge of Newsnight etc. Then they are the person who gets the high jump without leaving it to the DG.

Mark, I think it was right that you compared the new fiasco with the Ross/Brand affair.

I know they are quite different, but they both point to a multi-layered management system within the BBC where no-one seems to have actual control on what gets broadcast, and when the unbelievable happens then controller's or director's heads have to roll.

Quite right of course as they have been in charge of the multiple layers of management but have not controlled the decisions.

Ninety years of BBC and now it's shameful mess.

I thought lessons might have been learnt over the years and things checked. Obviously not.

If a head rolled for misleading Editorial problems at the BBC then ITV has an editorial problem. This is not on ITV news, this is other shows like This Morning for ITV. This is a major problem at the BBC to many Editors working in different departments, and no one actually taking control.

News and Entertainment editorial needs to be split and each one has it's own person acting for each programme.

According to BBC press office Mr Entwistle is reportedly to receive a year's salary as he leaves, amounting to £450,000 as well as the pension contribution.

Sanctimony raises its ugly political head as usual. We have MP's saying that the BBC and its appointees should be free from political interference and then there they are on their feet in the chamber, demanding that the DG's severance pay should be cut.
It's also noticeable that the left wing bias of the BBC allowed any anti-Tory (particularly Thatcher) story to be aired/published without scrutiny. Serves them bloody well right.
